Boxing Betting Lines: If you’re looking for the best advice for boxing wagering, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Here at Bookmaker sportsbook we’re previewing the WBA heavyweight title bout between Bryant Jennings and Luis Ortiz on December 19th, 2015 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.
Heavyweight Bryant Jennings takes on undefeated Cuban boxer Luis Ortiz for the WBA interim heavyweight title on December 19th, 2015 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. Considering his flawless record, champion status and proven punching power Ortiz should be favored in boxing wagering.
Luis Ortiz has a record of 23-0 with two no contests coming into this bout in New York. He has defeated an impressive eighty percent of opponents — or 20 fighters — by knockout in his career. Ortiz won the interim WBA World heavyweight title for the second time in his latest bout after defeating Matias Ariel Vidondo in a third-round knockout on October 17th. He will defend it for the first time against Jennings.
The 36-year-old had previously won the vacant WBA interim heavyweight title with a knockout defeat over Lateef Kayode in September 2009, but was later stripped of the victory and the title after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Nandrolone. Ortiz was also fined $8,000 and banned from the sport for eight months because of the positive test results. The bout against Kayode marked the second no contest of his career. Upon his return in June, Ortiz defeated Byron Polley by technical knockout in the first round. The Cuban boxer made his debut in 2010, defeating Lamar Davis in his professional debut. Fourteen of his 23 wins have come in the third round or sooner.
Bryant Jennings has a record of 19-1 in his career. He has defeated 10 opponents by knockout in that time. Jennings will be eager to get back in the winning column against Ortiz after suffering the first loss of his career in his last appearance in the ring on April 25th when he fell to Wladimir Klitschko by unanimous decision in a fight for the Super WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring heavyweight titles.
Jennings has previously held the Pennsylvania Heavyweight and USBA Heavyweight titles, but a win here against Ortiz would be a big boost. The 31-year-old has also captured recent wins over Cuba’s Mike Perez and Poland’s Artur Szpilka. He turned pro in 2010 and started his career with 19 wins in a row and will be eager to rebound after his loss to Klitschko and for another chance at a world title. In terms of physicality, at 6-foot-4, Ortiz has a one-inch over Jennings. The two fighters are listed to have the same exact reach, however, at 84 inches in boxing wagering.
