NCAA Basketball Southeastern Conference Betting

Currently, there are five ranked teams in the SEC. This conference is known for its football, but the basketball has been great this year, and six teams are seen as locks to make the NCAA Tournament according to Bubble Watch. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, and Tennessee should all be able to make the NCAA Tournament, and Florida, South Carolina, and Texas A&M have the chance to make it too.

The SEC is the second-best conference in the nation according to Ken Pomeroy’s metrics. Auburn is currently the top team in terms of the standings, but Kentucky looks to be the best team with Wooden Award favorite Oscar Tshiebwe leading the way. Tshiebwe has been dominant on the glass this season, ranking first in both offensive and defensive rebounding percentage, and he is also making over 60% of his shots. That has made Kentucky the second-best offense in the nation.

Bruce Pearl has done a marvelous job with Auburn. The Tigers are 26-4 heading into their season finale, and two of their losses came in overtime. They have not looked good away from home over the last month though with a 1-3 record and that one win came in overtime. Auburn plays good defense and leads the country in block percentage, but Jabari Smith and Zep Jasper are the only two perimeter shooters to be feared.

We saw Alabama win its first SEC Tournament in three decades last year. The Crimson Tide lived up to the billing in their second season under Nate Oats, and they continue to be one of the teams to watch in the SEC. They have had their ups and downs with wins over Gonzaga, Houston, and Baylor in non-conference play, but they lost to Iona, Georgia, Missouri, and Davidson.

Southeastern Tournament Format

The 2022 SEC Tournament will take place from March 9-13 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Missouri, and Georgia will have to win five games in five days to win the tournament after finishing at the bottom of the conference, and teams 5-10 will start their journey in the second round. The top four seeds in the SEC will receive double byes directly to the quarterfinals, and that extra rest helps.

This year’s SEC Championship Game will be held on Sunday, March 13, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. It is one of the final automatic bids to be decided before the Selection Committee takes over.

There's Kentucky and then there's everybody else in the SEC. The SEC Tournament dates back to 1933, and the Wildcats have been absolutely dominant for long stretches. Adolph Rupp's run of seven consecutive conference tournament titles from 1944 through 1950 will likely never be matched again.

Nor will the fact that his team played in 14 consecutive SEC Championship Games and would have probably played in more if not for the fact that the tournament was cancelled in 1952 until picking back up in 1979. For good measure, Kentucky appeared in those first two SEC title games running its streak of consecutive appearances to 16 over 41 years.

All the charter members of the SEC have won at least one tournament title. South Carolina is the oldest of the institutions to have never won this event having joined the conference in 1992, while relative newcomers Missouri and Texas A&M have yet to have a great amount of success in the SEC Tournament.
