The showcase match of the night pits Yair Rodriguez up against Alex Caceres in a big featherweight bout. Both of these fighters are really looking for a boost to their standing in the featherweight division and are hoping to ultimately get a shot at some of the bigger names in the near future.
Rodriguez is getting a chance to headline an event for the first time in his career after he earned Performance of the Night honors for his flying head kick which knocked out Andre Fili in the second round at UFC 197 in April. Caceres, is just merely trying to hang on to everything he has. He lost three fights in a row to get knocked from the featherweight rankings, but he has since rebounded just a bit in undercard fights, taking care of Masio Fullen in January and Cole Miller in June.
UFC Fight Night 92 is also a big night for another of the featherweight fighters, Cub Swanson, who is actually ranked No. 6 on the ladder in the division. He's going to be a heavy favorite over Tatsuya Kawajiri in a battle of veterans of the octagon. Swanson hopes that a win in this fight, which would be his eighth in his last 10 bouts, can get him closer to earning a title shot, something he has never had in his UFC career.
