Dos Anjos hasn’t lost since falling to Khabib Nurmagomedov by unanimous decision on April 19th, 2014. He has fought very well of late and will look to hold onto his belt once again.
Eddie Alvarez is 27-4 as a professional with 14 wins by knockout, seven by submission and six by knockout. He was the longtime Bellator lightweight champion, claiming it with a victory over Toby Imada on June 19th, 2009, and successfully defending it four times before losing to Michael Chandler in 2011. Alvarez moved up to the UFC in September of 2014 and subsequently dropped his very first bout to Donald Cerrone by unanimous decision. He has adjusted well since then, defeating Gilbert Melendez by split decision on June 13th, 2015 and then Anthony Pettis, also by split decision, on January 17th, 2016. Even though Alvarez has the better record, he hasn’t faced nearly the same amount of competition and will be the underdog in this one.
There will be 10 fights on the card at UFC Fight Night 90. Others include the lightweight bout between Joseph Duffy and Mitch Clarke; the heavyweight matchup between Roy Nelson and Derrick Lewis; the bantamweight fight between Anthony Birchak and Dileno Lopes and the welterweight showdown between Alan Jouban and Nordine Taleb. While the rest of the bouts will be interesting, all eyes will be on dos Anjos as he aims to defend his title against Alvarez in UFC odds.
