Senior Investment Belmont Stakes Betting OddsBelmont Stakes Betting: The 2017 Preakness Stakes will be remembered as a real oddball of a race. Cloud Computing, a horse who was viewed as a pace-setter and not a closer, came out of nowhere in the final eighth of a mile to nip Classic Empire at the wire, and Kentucky Derby winner, Always Dreaming was a non-factor heading into the stretch run. But the sort of undercard story to the whole thing was that Senior Investment, a 32 to 1 longshot, finished third after entering the stretch in eighth place. He's a deep closer for sure, and the Belmont Stakes might really suit him well.

The Belmont Stakes will go to post on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 6:50 p.m. ET at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. Catch the Belmont Stakes live on NBC.

Senior Investment

Career Record: 3-0-2 ( 9 Races )

Career Earnings: $372,080

Belmont Stakes Odds at BookMaker.eu: +800

Senior Investment was looked upon as a throw-in horse for the Preakness Stakes, one that helped get the field up to a respectable 10 when most of the Kentucky Derby ponies decided not to come back and race on the two weeks of rest. He was 32 to 1 that day and ultimately hit the board. It was the third straight race in which Senior Investment was a double-digit dog and the fifth time in his career.

It appears as though the Belmont Stakes isn't going to add to that. Senior Investment has opened as a +800 choice. Sure, that's nowhere near as good as the price on Classic Empire or Epicharis or Tapwrit, but it's also not as bad as the prices on Conquest Mo Money or Multiplier, both also-rans of the Preakness.

Why Senior Investment Will Win the Belmont Stakes

The biggest thing to fall in love with when it comes to Senior Investment is the fact that he's getting stronger and stronger with every additional furlong added to races he's running. Go back and look at the end of his run at the Preakness Stakes and tell us you don't think this colt can go another 3/16 of a mile! The bottom line with Senior Investment is that he was always bred for distance, and this was the specific race he was supposed to really make his money at. It's hard to say that he won't be a contender as a result.

Why Senior Investment Won't Win the Belmont Stakes

Senior Investment only has run in three graded stakes races in his career, and the results have been wildly different. He finished sixth in the Louisiana Derby, won the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes and then finished third at the Preakness. Most didn't see the run at Pimlico coming, though his inclusion in the exotics made the prices on both the trifectas and supers a lot more impressive.

It's also a drag that Senior Investment hasn't posted a 100 Beyer Speed Rating in his career, topping out at the 98 from the Preakness.

The Final Verdict

We see some potential in Senior Investment. There's enough here to make us think that he has a shot, and that's more than we can say for a lot of the other ponies in what is shaping up to be a relatively crowded field.

Though it's hard to say Senior Investment is the best closer in the field (we think Lookin At Lee is), he's one of just a few who will come from off the pace to try to challenge. Some of them might get there. All of them might get there. And none of them might get there.

We'd guess Senior Investment will hit the back end of exotics but ultimately not have a shot at the top price. It's a coin flip whether he impacts the money or not.
