EURO 2020 Semifinals: England vs. Denmark Betting Odds

EURO 2020 England vs. Denmark Betting Odds

Narratives will clash in the second semifinal match of EURO 2020. Denmark has been championed as a team of destiny ever since they miraculously made it out of the Group Stage following Christian Eriksen’s collapse on the pitch. The Danes have their countrymen thinking they are going to relive their incredibly 1992 run although their star player won’t be with them. Meanwhile, England’s fans are jubilant after what Gareth Southgate has gotten out of this squad. The Three Lions will have the benefit of playing at home for the semifinals and potentially the finals, and there is no doubt they will have the crowd at their backs this week. There have been chants of, “It’s Coming Home” throughout this Euros and it really might be for the first time in England’s history.

Odds Analysis

Denmark hammered Wales 4-0 in the Round of 16 and bested the Czech Republic 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Kasper Dolberg has taken over as the leader of the attack, and he notched a brace against Wales and the second goal against the Czech Republic.

Defense is the key for the Danes. Captain Simon Kjaer has been the leader in the back, and Andreas Christensen has played well. Kasper Schmeichel continues to prove himself in net, making this team difficult to carve up.

England is coming off its best performance in Euro 2020. The Three Lions scored just four goals through their first four matches, but they fired in four against Ukraine in Rome on Saturday. Harry Kane got things started in the fourth minute and bagged another goal shortly after halftime, and Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson both scored off set pieces.

The English have yet to concede a goal in Euro 2020. They have now gone seven matches without allowing a goal, and they haven’t lost since falling to Belgium in mid-November. Gareth Southgate has continued to have England in fine form since taking them to the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup, and this team is now favored to win its first Euros.

This attack has a plethora of options and talent in reserve to boot. Kane is a true No. 9 at the top of the formation, and Raheem Sterling can make a lot of things happen. Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish are players that would be permanent fixtures on almost any other team in the world, and Maguire is an aerial terror when he joins the attack on set pieces.

Matchup to Watch

It won’t be easy for Denmark to break through the English defense. Maguire has been as reliable as ever at center back, and John Stones has been very solid. Kyle Walker, Luke Shaw, and Kieran Trippier are great on the edges too.

Dolberg has made a name for himself at this event, but there just aren’t that many options for the Danes. Martin Braithwaite has had his moments, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has played very well, but there won’t be a lot of variance in the attacking third.

This is where Denmark’s dream run comes to an end. England are a much better squad with talent all over the pitch, and the Three Lions will have a sizable advantage playing at home. Denmark is likely to break Jordan Pickford’s clean sheet streak, but it won’t be enough.

EURO 2020 Odds: England 2, Denmark 1
