Odds Analysis

The Three Lions are an enormous favorite per the soccer betting odds ahead of this match. They are the largest favorite of the quarterfinals, and they are expected to have little trouble with Ukraine. However, it’s unwise to count any team out considering that we saw defending World Cup champions France upended by Switzerland in the Round of 16.

Ukraine was the last team to advance out of the Group Stage. They advanced ahead of Finland and Slovakia based on goal differential, and they were underdogs against similarly colored Sweden in the Round of 16. That match looked set to head to penalties despite Marcus Danielson of Sweden picking up a red card in the 99th minute, but Artem Dovbyk put Ukraine ahead for good just before the final whistle.

There isn’t a lot of talent on this Ukraine team though. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Andriy Yarmolenko are the two standout players, and Roman Yaremchuk has looked good at times, but there aren’t a lot of players that are on the radar of the biggest clubs on the continent.

England has its most talented team in decades. Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, and Harry Kane are all preeminent strikers, and we have seen Sterling score three of England’s four goals at the Euros. The back line has been superb with England not allowing a goal in four matches, and Jordan Pickford has been fantastic in net.

It’s very difficult to score on England with their athletic, physical defense. Harry Maguire is superb in the aerial game and rarely gets caught wrong-footed, and John Stones, Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier, and Kyle Walker have all played well when being given the opportunity.

Jack Grealish has only made one start in this tournament, but he figures to be in the starting XI for England on Saturday. Grealish provided a huge spark when he came off the bench against Germany, providing the assists on the goals from Sterling and Kane. He is a game-changer with his vision and passing, and this team needs his creativity.

Matchup to Watch

Ukraine’s back line is going to be seriously tested by England on Saturday. Andriy Shevchenko’s defense is probably the worst of any team left in this tournament, as they have yet to post a clean sheet despite only playing one quality attacking squad. The Three Lions have more talent on the attack than any other team they have faced.

The other three quarterfinal matches figure to be close, but Ukraine will be unable to hang with England for long in the last of the four games. The Three Lions are likely to run roughshod over their counterparts, as they will be far more dangerous. While other teams are struggling with injuries, England are healthy and will have its best performance yet on Saturday.

EURO 2020 Odds: England 3, Ukraine 0
