The New York Derby will see its third and final installment with both sides having won a match earlier in the year against the other. New York City FC won the last meeting 2-0 on July 3, but the Red Bulls had one of the biggest wins in MLS history in a game now known as the ‘Hudson River Massacre’ in the first meeting of the season and will be trumpeting their 7-0 win against NYCFC on its home turf for some time.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The two New York teams are both in the top three in the East and have played some good soccer recently. The Red Bulls are the best home team in the East with a 7-1-2 record in their stadium, but NYCFC has far and away the best road record in the MLS. NYCFC is 6-1-3 away from home and looks like a different team away from Yankee Stadium.

KEY PLAYERS

Sacha Kljestan leads the entire MLS in assists and after a five-match pointless streak broke through in a big way against Philadelphia last weekend. He notched both of the Red Bulls’ goals against Philadelphia and showed that he not only has boundless creativity, but a refined finishing touch as well.

The Red Bulls have another one of the top finishers in the league in Bradley Wright-Phillips. Wright-Phillips has failed to score in his last four matches, but is giving his teammates opportunities when he can’t find the back of the net. He has tallied an assist in each of the Red Bulls’ last two matches and has shown he can do more than just score.

NYCFC has the top scorer in the league in David Villa, and barring injury he looks like he should run away with the Golden Boot. He was one of the top goal scorers in Europe in his prime and has continued to fire away in the States. Villa is deadly with the ball in the box and Red Bulls’ defenders must close out on him.

Thomas McNamara has been on fire in the month of July and played a big role in two of NYCFC’s road wins. McNamara assisted on two goals against Montreal and another goal against New England. He has a plethora of options to pass to and that has made his job a lot easier.

LIVE BETTING

These sides like to score goals and the over is going to be a great play in this match. NYCFC’s last two matches have each had four goals in them and that will be the type of soccer to expect here.

QUICK PICK

Both of New York City’s clubs look destined to make the playoffs and there’s a definitive chance that they grab the top two seeds in the East. The Red Bulls haven’t dropped a home game in over three months and should have a sell-out crowd on hand to make sure they don’t stumble against their arch-rivals.

NYCFC just joined MLS last season, but has already made tremendous leaps and bounds. The club has used the gravitas of the Big Apple to draw in huge names and some of Europe’s best are shining in their swan songs. NYCFC has been dying to play the Red Bulls on their home turf to exact a measure of revenge after the 7-0 defeat this season and will get just that.
