Soccer Odds - United States vs. Colombia Match Preview

2016-USA-vs-Colombia-Betting-Odds

The United States already knows that it is on its way to the quarterfinals of the Olympics regardless of what happens in this match. Colombia already knows that it's on the way out the door and is playing its last 90 minutes in Rio before going home. This match might not have a lot on the line for either team, but it still should be an awfully competitive fixture.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Colombia has one of the up and coming teams in the world, but this is a match which is beyond it. The team is a dog by 2.5 goals in this matchup largely thanks to the fact that it has been outclassed already by both France and New Zealand, matches we'll talk about in a moment. The United States is set at -1000 on the moneyline and is very likely going to end up only rising from here.

The total of 3.5 with -125 vig on the under suggests that a 3-0 or 4-0 victory for the Stars and Stripes is the most likely result.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE

As we've already stated, this match really doesn't mean a heck of a lot to anyone. The United States does need a point to ensure winning this group, and technically, Colombia could win this match by a slew of goals, finish third in the group and hope to get into the knockout rounds by hitting the backdoor as a third place team.

The American ladies probably haven't been quite as impressive on the offensive end of the pitch as you might have expected, but they have yet to allow a goal and have been fantastic in defense. They beat France 1-0 and New Zealand 2-0, and neither match really ever felt like it was in doubt.

Colombia meanwhile, has been a real disappointment. Getting blasted 4-0 by France was a huge wakeup call to the team, and following that up with a 1-0 loss against New Zealand essentially sealed its fate.

LIVE BETTING

We're really quite surprised Colombia hasn't scored a goal yet in this tournament. Sure, Group G is incredibly tough, the toughest challenge which is yet to come for the South Americans, but this team does have some goal scorers on it. Then again, it's worth remembering that Ingrid Vidal is just 25-years old, and Catalina Usme is 26. These two have combined for 31 goals in their brief time in the Colombian national team, and if they aren't able to at least threaten the Americans in this match, there's no doubt that this will end in Hope Solo's 103rd career shutout.

QUICK PICK

Jill Ellis might end up experimenting just a bit in this matchup, but it probably isn't going to matter all that much. Whichever lineup the Americans put out there will almost certainly be superior to the lineup which Colombia will be able to field.

That said, we still will be banking on Colombia in this match against the Asian Handicap. The Americans very likely aren't going to be giving up any goals in this one, but we have a hard time imagining that a team which has scored just three goals in this tournament is going to score three against a team which is tremendously underrated. We'll bank on Colombia but do so with caution.

Olympics Odds: United States 2, Colombia 0
