Boxing’s most feared fighter, Gennady Golovkin, is back in action this Saturday

2015-Golovkin-vs.-Lemiuex-Odds

There might not be a scarier fighter these days than undefeated WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin - 33-0, 30 KOs. Watch some of his highlights and it’s not hard to see why - the guy has unnatural power that nobody wants to feel. Luckily for us, another slugger, Canadian David Lemieux - 34-2, 31 KOS - has stepped to to give “GGG” another showcase fight. You don’t want to miss this fight.

CURRENT ODDS

Online boxing odds currently list Golovkin as a huge favorite, starting at -1400. The most expensive money line I’ve seen is an astounding -2000. Lemieux’s money line ranges from +600 to +900. In this 12-round bout between two boxers who have higher than a 90% knockout rate, I’d expect the total to be very low, around 8.5 rounds. Remember to check in on the morning of fight night for prop bets, because they should definitely be interesting. BookMaker updates their odds daily, so expect the lines to shift as action starts coming in.

GOLOVKIN AND LEMIEUX SOUND OFF

Golovkin on making his headlining pay-per-view debut:

“Pay-per-view, to me, means reaching the highest level in the sport. This has given me the opportunity for my first title unification fight. All the big names in boxing have fought on pay-per-view and I look forward to making my first pay-per-view on October 17 against champion David Lemieux.”

“I want the biggest fights against the top names in the middleweight division and that means pay-per-view. I appreciate the sport of my fans and I look forward to putting on another amazing show for them. Since I started fighting in the United States and on HBO three years ago my exposure has increased dramatically and I’m happy with my career.”

Lemieux on his preparation:

“I am absolutely ready for Golovkin. There is not a single doubt in my mind, and I would not have taken the fight if there was.”

“This is my next step, a big one, but one that I am definitely ready for. I honestly think that I’m the best chosen opponent to beat Golovkin now because of the boxer that I am, physically and mentally, but mostly because of my character. My strength of character.”

The fight will unify the WBA, IBF, interim WBC and IBO titles, but more importantly, the winner will earn mandatory challenger status for the winner of November’s PPV bout between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez. If Golovkin gets past Lemieux, he’s set up for the biggest fight of his career.

THE SMART BET

There’s a reason that Golovkin is such a huge favorite - he’s just that damn good. That’s not to say Lemieux doesn’t have a chance, but are you really willing to put money on a “puncher’s” chance? GGG is money in the bank, but it’s really not too much of a return at the current odds.

Take a look at the total on rounds for this fight, and shoot for the under to get a better value. Lemieux is an aggressive fighter, which certainly bodes well for Golovkin’s chances at an early knockout. Keep an eye on the prop bets too, as Golovkin to win by knockout is also going to be a popular play that nets you a better payout than GGG to win straight up.
