Boxing Odds - Mayweather vs. McGregor - Will Either Fighter Test Positive for PEDs Prop

2017-Boxing-Will-Either-Fighter-Test-Positive-for-PEDs-Prop-Betting-Lines

Do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Conor McGregor will test positive for PEDs before Saturday’s fight in Las Vegas? You can bet either way on this prop with No the heavy favorite at -7200, while the Yes is listed at +575. It does seem unlikely that either fighter would test positive with so much money on the line, but strange things happen in sports and it is not out of the realm of possibility that one of the two is caught using PEDs.

Will Either Mayweather or McGregor Test Positive for Performance Enhancing Drugs for their Fight on August 26?

Yes +575

No -7200

The wiseguys have been all over this prop from the moment it was released, as the opening odds had the No at -1100 and the Yes at +300. The wiseguys usually know what they are doing when they move a prop this much, as they have a strong idea that neither fighter is going to test positive.

McGregor is part of two separate USADA drug-testing pools. He is under the UFC anti-doping policy. He is also under the USADA’s pool for professional boxers. McGregor has to adhere to two separate policies since he is still an active UFC fighter and he is also a boxer. McGregor has already been tested five times this year under the UFC’s anti-doping policy. Mayweather has been tested twice this year, both recently. McGregor was tested 11 times last year and he is under strict guidelines under the UFC policy, as he has to tell the USADA where he is on a daily basis.

The USADA has said that they will be using the latest methods for testing and that all samples will be tested for HGH, EPO, etc. The USADA has said that they are using WADA accredited labs and ensuring the highest quality testing procedures.

UFC president Dana White said that he was pleased that Mayweather agreed to the drug testing. It was reported that Mayweather was drug tested a total of 34 times in 2015 by the USADA. The USADA said that there is no limit to the amount of times both fighters may be tested leading up to the fight on Saturday.

What It All Means?

The bottom line with all of the testing done by the USADA is that both fighters should come back clean. There is simply too much on the line for each fighter to test positive for PEDS. As noted earlier, the wiseguys are well aware of just how much drug testing is being done on the two fighters and they are betting in a big way that neither will come back with a positive result.

Odds on a prop don’t move by this type of margin very often. We have seen the line go from -1100 to -7200. There is no way to know exactly what type of money came in on this prop, as the limits have been low, but we do know that the books are going to lose money on this prop if both fighters test clean.

Just what is at stake for both fighters? The fight is expected to break the record for most total revenue, with estimates in the $500 million dollar range. That would shatter the $410 million that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in 2015 brought in. Mayweather is expected to earn about $100 million from his 50th pro fight, while McGregor is expected pull in $75 million. Those numbers do not include money each fighter is getting from sponsors. And keep in mind that neither fighter is going to release the true figures, which will almost assuredly be much higher than estimates.

It all means that you can expect both fighters to test negative for PEDs for Saturday’s fight.
