Round Prop Picks

Before I look at some of the rounds that might be worth considering on the props it is worth noting the overall betting trends for this fight. So far, 90% of the wagers on this fight have been on McGregor. That does not mean that 90% of the money is on McGregor though, it just means most of the public bettors are backing the underdog. Most people expect some of the big money to come in on Mayweather before the fight. Experts believe that sportsbooks are going to need Mayweather to win, simply because of all of the public action on McGregor.

The most popular prop bets so far have been on McGregor to win in one of the early rounds, McGregor winning by knockout, Mayweather winning by knockout and Mayweather to win by disqualification.

If we believe the talk coming out of the McGregor camp, there is a good chance the fight will end early. McGregor has said in the media that if the Nevada Athletic Commission agrees to change the gloves from 10 ounce to 8 ounce, Mayweather won’t last two rounds.

“If we’re wearing eight-ounce gloves, I’m struggling to see how he lasts two rounds, and that’s the God’s honest truth.” McGregor said, “I fight in four-ounce gloves, why would I give a [expletive]? The only reason I maybe give him two rounds is because in this game, the referee stops me from pounding his head into the canvas, and he has 10 seconds to recover. That’s the only reason he might make it to a second round.”

Taking McGregor to win in Round 1 at +2200 could be worth a look, in addition to taking McGregor to win in Round 2 at +2200. I also think there is a little value in taking Mayweather to win in Round 1 at +1700 and to win in Round 2 at +2000. Even though there is some value in taking these round props, a better option might just be to take McGregor to win by knockout at +450 and Mayweather to win by knockout at -200.

If we ignore the talk coming out of the two camps then we may have some value on taking the fight to go the distance. Former WBC featherweight champion Kevin Kelley said to FightHub TV that McGregor is going to have trouble doing hitting Mayweather. "He's not going to be effective slapping shots. He's going to have a problem with Mayweather trying to do that. I saw him slapping his shots a little bit, and Floyd can see those coming," Kelley said.

Kelley said that it would be a moral victory just for McGregor to fight all 12 rounds against Mayweather. "Remember, Floyd isn't a puncher. Conor McGregor picked the right opponent. He didn't pick Triple G [Gennady Golovkin]. He picked Mayweather, because if he was in a boxing match with a puncher like Triple G, the fight would be over," Kelley said.

Mayweather to win by decision is listed at +160, so if Kelley is right, there could be a little value in taking Mayweather to win by decision.
