Sebastien Buemi has 98 points on the season after finishing in second place by just a lone point to Piquet, Jr. in last year’s Formula E standing. He has two victories this season and leads the rest of the pack by 22 points. Buemi won the season opener in Beijing and picked up a victory two races later at Punta del Esta. Buemi had the fastest lap at both of those races and also did so at Putrajaya. Buemi has accumulated 18 points in each of the past two races to continue widening his lead even though he hasn’t tacked in victories. Buemi couldn’t quite catch Piquet, Jr. in the season finale in 2015 and hopes to be so far ahead of the rest of the pack in 2016 that it doesn’t come down to the last event.
This will be the first-ever street race in Paris, and it will encompass 14 turns and span 1.93 kilometers. The Eiffel Tower will be visible from the course, which will take place within the historic Les Invalides area in the capital city.
Lucas Piquet, Jr. would love to be competitive but he has not had a very good season. After accumulating 144 points last season, he has only four in the 2015-16 season, with no finish above eighth place. He sits in 15th place overall and will almost assuredly not be successfully defending his crown.
Lucas di Grassi is currently in second place overall with 78 points. He picked up a victory at Putrajaya and has two second-place and one third-place finish. If di Grassi didn’t disqualified last time out, he would be closer to Buemi and hopes to close the gap moving forward. Sam Bird is in third place overall with 60 points and has a victory under his belt, while Jerome Ambrosio is the other driver on tour to win an event. Ambrosio currently sits in fourth place with 58 points.
Those four drivers seem like the cream of the crop in the 2015-16 Formula E season, with Buemi currently standing out above the rest. He will aim to add another victory to his resume in Formula E gambling.
