2016 Formula E World Championship Betting OddsFormula E Betting: When you think of auto racing, you think of massive engines and ridiculously high speeds. Some detractors of the sport are believers that auto racing is nothing more than a waste of the precious natural resources of oil and gas. However, all of that is changing with the new electric car version of auto racing known as Formula E, a sport which is entering its third season this October.

Formula E is very likely going to end up being the new rage in auto racing at some point down the line, though for the time being, the sport is still relatively small. There are only a total of nine teams with two drivers apiece who are competing in these Formula E races.

The format of racing in Formula E is interesting for sure. All of the cars are limited to using 170 kW over the course of the race except for what is known as a "power window" when drivers can access another 100 kJ of power for a short period of time. This boost is only given to drivers who win the "Fanboost," a social media contest which is held between two weeks prior to the start of the race and the first six minutes of the actual race itself.

Pit stops are also very interesting, to say the least. Instead of changing tires and adding fuel, pit crews are used to help drivers get out of their cars and into another car. Due to the fact that the car batteries are only designed to last a certain amount of time, all drivers are required to head to pit road once. The races only last a total of about 50 minutes.

This year, there are a total of 14 races which are going to be run beginning in Hong Kong in October and wrapping up with the New York ePrix in July.

Nelson Piquet Jr. won the very first Formula E championship. Last season, Sebastien Buemi captured the tite.
