Odds Analysis

The Yanks are expected to win this match and win it going away against a Trinidad & Tobago team that sits at the bottom of the Hexagonal four matches into competition. They're -1200 moneyline favorites and are laying 2.5-goals on the Asian Handicap in this one. It's a natural reaction with the magnitude of this game apparent. A win, and the Americans will have seven points and be on fairly sturdy ground the rest of the way in the Hex. A loss, and they'll be on the wrong side of the cut line heading into Estadio Azteca on Sunday.

It's also worth remembering that the USMNT won 4-0 when these two teams met in the final match of Group C play in the fourth round of qualifying.

Roster Analysis

The Americans used an awfully young side in a weekend friendly clash with Venezuela. DeAndre Yedlin was used in a wing role at the back, while both Darlington Nagbe and goal-scorer Christian Pulisic played in the midfield. Bobby Wood started up front with Clint Dempsey. Most believe these four are the key to the Americans reaching the World Cup and ultimately thriving if they get there.

Trinidad has had itself some issues of late. The team drew 2-2 with Grenada in a friendly in April, and that was the last time the club was on the pitch. This isn't a bad squad, but it's one that's missing its captain, Kenwyne Jones and a couple other legitimate MLS stars, Cordell Cato and Kevin Molino.

Khaleem Hyland plays his club soccer at Westerlo in Belgium, and he's going to be one of the most capped players in this T&T lineup. That said, manager Carlos Edwards knows this team isn't going to be the best he's got available. The Soca Warriors are going to be up against it for sure against arguably the best team in CONCACAF, especially here on the road in Colorado.

The Americans have to have this one, and they know it. Maybe they aren't going to come out and beat Trinidad & Tobago by a 6-0 margin as they did against Honduras, but we suspect they're going to end up with a crooked number on the board when it's said and done with.

We love the fact that this defense has been sharp ever since Bruce Arena has taken over, and that should assure that there isn't a meltdown at the back. The probing will continue time and time again over the course of the whole 90 minutes, and eventually, the raw talent that comes with names like Yedlin, Pulisic, Bradley, Wood, Altidore, Dempsey, and Nagbe will come through with a strike or two.

So long as the Americans don't panic if they don't get off to the fastest start on the face of the earth, they should be alright. It'll be close whether they do or do not cover the 2.5-goal spread, but we're guessing they'll get the job done. Regardless, three points means a lot more than three goals.

World Cup Qualifying Odds: United States 3, Trinidad & Tobago 0
