Soccer Odds - Scotland vs. England Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Scotland-vs.-England-(FS1)-Betting-Lines

With five matches left to be played in Group F, England knows that it's basically on its way to the World Cup. The team hasn't blinked yet in a match that mattered aside from a nil-nil draw against Slovenia on the road, and a victory over Scotland should effectively end any chances anyone else had of running down the Three Lions in the group.

This World Cup Qualifying duel will go down Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 12 p.m. ET at Hampden Park. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports 2.

Odds Analysis

The Brits really have to be favored at this point. They're -150 on the moneyline, and though that isn't an overly convincing price, there isn't such a thing as a team in Group F that should have a shot against them, home or away.

This though, is the biggest match in the group for Tartan's Army. Scotland knows that another loss is probably the end of its chances of getting into the World Cup, but more important is the regional rivalry of the whole thing. England has always been the "big brother," per se, and the Scottish are dying to at least get a small leg up on their foes.

The total is set at 2.5, but -160 vig on the under essentially leaves the number to beat at a flat 2.

Recent Form

It's really hard to complain about anything England has done thus far in the group stage. A total of eight goals in five matches isn't great, but the bottom line is that the team has yet to concede. The Three Lions were last in action together in March in a 2-0 win at home against Lithuania, though a 1-0 loss in Dortmund against Germany was nothing to be proud of.

Scotland can't be overly disappointed in its efforts over the course of its first five matches in Group F. The team has only played two home games and three away matches, and both the away games against England and Slovakia are finished. Sure, there weren't any points to be had in those two duels, but Tartan's Army managed seven points in three fixtures at home against Slovenia and Lithuania and away to Malta.

If the Scots can figure out how to get anything from this match and Lithuania happens to give some fits to Slovakia, the door could be cracked open to finish second in this group with four matches still to play, none of which are beyond them.

It's not like this Scotland side is completely void of talent. Darren Fletcher is the captain of the club, while Robert Snodgrass is the team's leader with three goals here in the group stage. But you can just flat out tell that the Scots are second best here as they were when they were beaten 3-0 in London earlier in qualifying.

Just go up and down the roster and see where all of the biggest players on each side hone their craft at the club level. You see a lot of Scottish sides, Championship sides and lower level Premier League sides in the Scotland roster. Virtually the entirety of England's Starting XI will consist of players who are signed to either Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham. In fact, the only exception might be Jermain Defoe, and that's only if he gets the nod up front instead of 19-year old Marcus Rashford.

For as nice as it would be for Scotland to get a point from this duel, we don't see it happening. If the Brits can score, they can surely take all three points.
