2022 FIFA World Cup Odds to Win Group D

2022 FIFA World Cup Group D Betting Odds

The defending World Cup champions are one of the favorites at the 2022 World Cup. France was dominant on its way to winning the World Cup in Russia, as Kylian Mbappe exploded on the scene. Les Bleus won every game during the knockout rounds in regulation, and they are hoping to repeat that run. However, they were stunned at the 2020 Euros, losing to Switzerland in penalties during the Round of 16 after blowing a two-goal lead in the closing minutes. France has not been impressive in Nations League play either this summer, posting an 0-2-2 record with just three goals, so there are some concerns about their status as one of the favorites.

Odds to win 2022 FIFA World Cup Group D

France -275

Denmark +310

Tunisia +1550

Australia +1750

Any country will be hard pressed to match France in terms of talent. The French probably have the best set of attackers in the world, and their back line should be among the top two or three units in Qatar.

Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Karim Benzema are all legends. Mbappe is the scariest forward in the world because of his pace and ability to break down defenses, and Griezmann has shown a lot of versatility over the years. Benzema has been Real Madrid’s talisman and always comes through when the team needs a lift. Olivier Giroud has been a good luck charm off the bench, and Kingsley Coman would be a regular starter for almost any other country.

If there is a weak spot for France, it is in the midfield. France boasts one of the best defensive midfielders in N’Golo Kante and one of the best offensive midfielders in Paul Pogba. Kante and Pogba play well together, but we have yet to see either Thomas Lemar or Adrien Rabiot emerge alongside them.

The back line is great with Raphael Varane, Benjamin Pavard, Presnel Kimpembe, and Lucas Hernandez protecting the goal. Hugo Lloris has been reliable in net, but he is no longer in his prime at the age of 35.

Denmark will be a sentimental favorite after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field during the European Championships last year. Eriksen is the heart and soul of the Danes, and his 115 caps and 38 goals are both team highs. After several months off the field, he made his long-awaited return in January, and he looked like his old self. That has Denmark hoping that it can make a deep run in the World Cup.

The Danes knocked off Serbia 3-0 in a friendly back in March, and they went on the road to beat France in Paris in June. Andreas Cornelius netted a brace in that win, so the Danes are hoping he can spark something up top. Denmark has used Yussuf Poulsen, Kasper Dolberg, Martin Braithwaite, and Cornelius at forward, but none of those players have really shined.

Tunisia is considered a longshot in Group D since the Eagles of Carthage have never made it out of the Group Stage in their five previous World Cup appearances. They have won just two matches at the World Cup, yet they have always secured at least one result. Tunisia could be poised to make it to the knockout rounds for the first time ever, as this is arguably its most talented team.

We saw Tunisia suffer a surprising loss to Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations, but they were fantastic at the Kirin Cup in June. Tunisia bested Chile 2-0 and knocked off hosts Japan 3-0 to win the event. Wahbi Khazri and Youssef Msakni can both make things happen, and young midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has a lot of promise. The Lions of Carthage don’t play France until the last game either, so that could bode well if the French have already locked up a spot in the knockout rounds.

It's going to be tough for Australia to make an impact in this group. The Socceroos were the last team to qualify for the World Cup after beating the United Arab Emirates and then Peru in penalties in June, and their only tune-up games before the tournament will be against New Zealand. The Aussies have not performed well in the last two World Cups, and they will be fortunate to pick up a win.
