West Ham United at Everton - 2018-19 Premier League Picks

It’s time to press the panic button if you’re West Ham United. You don’t usually say that just a month into the season, but West Ham are all alone in last place with no points through the first four games of the year. They will look to grab their first result after the international break when they head on the road to take on Everton. The Toffees have yet to lose and are sitting in seventh-place, but they are not the favorites you might expect as they have been bit hard by the injury bug.

Odds Analysis

Two of West Ham’s losses were very much expected. The Hammers’ first two road games of the season were against two of the top teams in the Premier League, Arsenal and Liverpool. They were outscored by a total of 7-1 in those two matches, but they did have some moments in the loss to Arsenal.

Unfortunately, they have loss both of their home games too. West Ham were up 1-0 on Bournemouth, but they allowed the visitors to score twice in the span of six minutes and couldn’t answer. The loss against Wolverhampton was even worse as the match was level until the third minute of extra time, when Wolves’ Adama Traore scored the game-winner.

It’s already been a weird year for Everton. The Toffees looked strong through their first two games of the season, picking up a point on the road against Wolves despite being down a man for more than 50 minutes. They followed that up with a 2-1 win over Southampton, but then the injuries set in.

Everton experienced an emotional rollercoaster of a game against Bournemouth their next time on the pitch. Star acquisition Richarlison picked up a red card just before halftime, and the Toffees looked like they were toast. However, Theo Walcott scored, Bournemouth went down to 10 men, and Michael Keene scored to put Everton in a great spot. Then, the other shoe dropped, and the Cherries got two goals in the span of four minutes to grab a tie. In their last match before the break, they played a listless draw with Huddersfield Town.

Key Injuries

Winston Reid and Andy Carroll are long-term injuries for West Ham, and they aren’t expected to see the field again until December at the earliest. Manuel Lanzini has also been ruled out for this one, but there’s a good chance that Jack Wilshere will return to the lineup. Arthur Masuaku may be back in action too and is probable with a muscular injury.

Whew boy, where to start with Everton. There are a whopping 12 players on Everton’s injury report, and that’s five more players than any other team in the Premier League. Andre Gomes, James McCarthy, Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Beni Baningime, and Seamus Coleman are out due to injury. Richarlison is out for one more match after picking up the red card too. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Theo Walcott are both considered doubtful, while Bernard and Idrissa Gueye are questionable. Yerry Mina was originally a doubt to play, but word is that he will see action on Sunday.

Everton is just too banged up at the moment to have much faith in them. West Ham have not played poorly through the early going, and they will capitalize on their chances to pull out a crucial road victory in this one. Look for Marko Arnautovic to grab at least one goal in a win for the Hammers.
