Soccer Odds - West Ham vs. Tottenham Match Preview

West-Ham-vs.-Tottenham-NBCSN-bm

The resolve of Tottenham Hotspur right now is insane. The club just continues pouring pressure on Chelsea for the top spot in the EPL. Time is running out though, as there are just four matches left to be played, and the margin at the top of the league sits at four points. Can the Spurs draw within one? They probably don't have a choice against West Ham on the road if they expect to keep the Blues within striking distance.

This English Premier League duel will go down Friday, May 5, 2017, at 3 p.m. ET at Olympic Stadium. The match will be televised live on NBC Sports Network.

Odds Analysis

Tottenham knows that it has to keep winning. It's got nine in a row, but it'll have to finish with 13 in a row if it wants to ultimately have a shot at claiming its first English championship since 1961. With the oddsmakers having that in mind, the price on the Spurs is outrageous at -238 on the moneyline. Most are suspecting an easy victory at Olympic Stadium, but West Ham shouldn't be totally discounted. It hasn't been the best season ever for Slaven Bilic's crew, but at 6-4-7 at home, there has to be belief that an upset could be brewing at +675.

The total of a flat 3 tells the tale of a higher scoring match to come to kick off the weekend's action.

Key Injuries

The big problem the Hammers have had this year is that they just haven't stayed healthy. Michail Antonio is the latest of the injury woes, as he's out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Andy Carroll probably won't be in the fold this weekend thanks to a groin injury, while Pedro Obiang and Angelo Ogbonna are both out for long spells. Diafra Sakho sat out against Stoke City last weekend, though he's trending towards being over his back injury by the time Friday rolls around.

Tottenham is in pretty good shape at the moment. The team is without Harry Winks and Cameron Carter-Vickers, but for the most part, this is a club that has been playing at near full strength all season long.

Recent Form

When is Tottenham going to drop another point? It hasn't happened in the league since February, and as we said at the top, the resolve has been phenomenal. The capper was a 2-0 win over Arsenal at home in the North London Derby, a matchup that canceled St. Totteringham's Day once and for all day 22 straight years of the Spurs finishing below the Gunners on the EPL table.

West Ham knows that a win in this match will secure another season in the top flight after some scary moments at the end of the campaign. Swansea City, currently in the relegation zone, can max out at 41 points, and West Ham sits on 39 at the moment. The good news is that the Hammers have picked up a point or better in four straight matches. The bad news is that they haven't scored a goal in two matches and are fortunate to have drawn their last three.

This could be West Ham's moment. The Hammers don't look anything like a team that is going to go toe-to-toe with Tottenham, but the Spurs have to relent eventually… right? West Ham has been playing better at the back, but it's going to need something brilliant from someone at the front to ultimately squeak out survival.

Nothing would be more fitting on this night than to effectively stave off relegation and end Tottenham's march towards an unlikely Premier League title. Don't be shocked if the return of Sakho puts a jolt in this team, and Bilic pulls one off to save his bacon for another year.

English Premier League Odds: West Ham 2, Tottenham 1
