Soccer Odds - Tottenham vs. Liverpool Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Tottenham-vs.-Liverpool-NBCSN-preview-Betting-Odds

Tottenham Hotspur has managed to put together a completely spotless away record this season at 4-0-0 with 12 goals for and just two conceded. That said, here at their temporary home at Wembley Stadium, they're just 1-2-1 and have only netted three goals. That's not good news with Liverpool coming to town in a clash that could have top four implications this season.

This English Premier League duel will go down Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. ET at Wembley Stadium. The match will be televised live on NBC Sports Network.

Odds Analysis

You hate to say that Tottenham has the worst home pitch advantage in the EPL this season, but it's clear that Wembley Stadium isn't White Hart Lane. The Spurs really need to get back to WHL in a hurry, but that isn't going to happen until next season. Wembley is big and cavernous, and it just doesn't feel like a home match when Tottenham is playing there.

That said, there's a big difference between Wembley Stadium and Anfield, too. Liverpool always has a tremendous home field advantage at Anfield, and just the fact that this match isn't there is why the Spurs have to be +105 favorites.

Key Injuries

Tottenham is having a major problem in defense at the moment. The team hasn't had Danny Rose since January and isn't expecting to have him before the start of November at the earliest. Ben Davies is still fighting an illness that is expected to keep him out of this week's match with Real Madrid in the Champions League as well.

Eric Dier is moving from a defensive midfield spot back to the back three, but with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama out of the fold, that's leaving a midfield crunch as well at this early juncture of the season.

Liverpool is playing without Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane, all of which are out for at least the next several weeks.

Recent Form

Tottenham has put together a nice five-match run. The team picked up its first Wembley win of the season in the EPL last weekend against Bournemouth, though the 1-0 triumph didn't exactly do much to inspire the fans. This came on the heels of wins against Huddersfield and West Ham on the road in the Premier League, a 3-0 victory over APOEL in the Champions League and a 1-0 victory in the EFL Cup over Barnsley. All told, the Spurs are unbeaten in their last nine matches since losing to Chelsea here at Wembley on August 20.

Liverpool was probably the better team on Saturday against Manchester United, though the end result didn't show anything of the sort. The teams were stuck on level terms in a scoreless draw, marking the third straight match the Reds have drawn.

It's been an interesting season for Jurgen Klopp's team for sure. Back in August, it felt like every match was ending with at least three or four goals between the two teams. Results like 3-3 at Watford and 4-2 over Hoffenheim were the norm. Now all of a sudden. Liverpool can't find the back of the opposing net, yet its having a much better time defending its own.

Credit goes out to Klopp for getting his tactics in order and getting the best out of a midfield that is missing its best player in Lallana.

Tottenham's struggles at home aren't going to continue forever, but we really question the tactics they have to employ coming into this match. The Spurs simply don't have enough healthy bodies at this point to fill up the pitch, and we're afraid that this is going to leave them a bit out of sorts. That was never going to hurt against Bournemouth, but against Liverpool could be a much different story.

Though the Reds are amongst the more bipolar groups in the BPL at the early stages of the season, we think they can come on the road and snare all three points.

English Premier League Odds: Liverpool 2, Tottenham 1
