Soccer Odds - Liverpool vs. Arsenal Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Liverpool-vs.-Arsenal-(NBCSN)-Bet-Online

The clock is starting to tick quickly on Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has done himself no favors in his contract season with Arsenal to date, as his team hasn't looked anything like a championship-caliber side. Wenger's next task of traveling to Anfield to take out Liverpool seems to be too difficult to accomplish.

This EPL duel will go down Sunday, August 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. ET at Anfield. The match will be televised live on NBC Sports Network.

Odds Analysis

There's no doubt that this is going to be a tightly run fixture from start to finish. There aren't many matches in the Premier League this week without an odds-on favorite, but Liverpool/Arsenal is one of them.

Oh sure, the Reds are the overwhelming +110 favorites and are basically slightly less than 50/50 propositions to take all three points from this one. But the margin is still believable for Arsenal at +225 on the moneyline. Either side could clearly take three points.

Key Injuries

It's starting to feel like Alexis Sanchez might never suit up for Arsenal again. He's still out with an abdominal injury and is continually being linked to transfers away from the Emirates. Jack Wilshere still isn't back with the main club yet, though he's training with the reserve team to get ready to start his season. Santiago Cazorla is seemingly perpetually injured and never feels like he'll be back on the pitch.

Nothing is new from Liverpool's injury report. Philippe Coutinho remains linked to Barcelona and might ultimately make the move to the Nou Camp when he gets over this back injury that he's been battling. Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana are both sidelined as well.

Recent Form

Liverpool is still disappointed with its 3-3 draw against Watford to kick off its season. That said, the Reds are very likely heading to the main Champions League draw after taking out Hoffenheim in the UCL playoff on the road with a match to be played on Wednesday at Anfield to assure the spot. The Reds also beat Crystal Palace 1-0 last weekend thanks to Sadio Mane's late show.

Arsenal was able to get through its first match with Leicester City by the miracle of a huge comeback in the dying moments. There was no such luck against Stoke City. The Potters were always the better of the two teams last weekend in a match that ended 1-0. Arsenal deserved better, knowing that it had a disallowed goal in the second half that should have ultimately stood up. But the better chances belonged to Stoke in that match, and it was a worthy victor against a top four contender.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Wenger has said that Arsenal needs to add talent to its squad if it is to seriously contend this year, but we can't help but wonder if that's merely a desperate cry for help from a man who knows that he's on the way out the door. Perhaps it would be better for Wenger to merely resign now and save the inevitable fate that will come with either his dismissal or failure to renew his contract at the end of the term.

We have a hunch this one could get ugly. Liverpool still seems to be playing as a team in spite of its sometimes suspect runs of play. Arsenal just has no cohesion whatsoever. Anfield has been a house of horrors for so many of the top teams in the league in recent years, even with Liverpool down. We think this one is going to be an ugly loss for the Gunners, who will be outmanned, particularly by the Liverpool attackers.

EPL Odds: Liverpool 3, Arsenal 0
