Wolverhampton-Wanderers-at-Manchester-United Odds

Barring a majestic collapse from Leicester City or Manchester City, three of the four Champions League slots allotted to the Premier League have already been filled. Liverpool, Leicester City, and Manchester City all have at least a 14-point advantage in the race for a place in the top four with 14 matches left to play, so the Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United will need to pick up as many points as possible to catch Chelsea for the final spot. Both teams are sitting on 34 points, along with Tottenham Hotspur, and all three clubs are six points behind Chelsea. Manchester United and Wolves will have the chance to get a leg up when they meet on Saturday.

Odds Analysis

Wolverhampton didn’t lose a game for three months between mid-September and mid-December. However, they settled for too many draws to rise higher than fifth in the standings, and the Wanderers needed to overcome a rough start to the season as well. Wolves didn’t win any of their first six matches, and they have fell into a slump recently too. They have lost three of their last five games, but two of those losses came at the hands of undefeated Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in serious trouble. It appeared that he had turned Manchester United around after a rough start when the Red Devils defeated Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the same week, but the results have not been there early on in 2020. Manchester United have lost three of their last four games, and all those defeats have been by a score of 2-0. The most recent defeat came at the hands of Burnley in Old Trafford, and that rankled the feathers of the home crowd since the Clarets are in 12th place.

Key Injuries

Wolves are one of the healthiest teams in the Premier League. Ruben Vinagre is the only player on the most recent injury report issued by the club, and he will miss this match as he undergoes a closer look on his thigh. Vinagre’s injury is a blow though, as he is one of the better center backs in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have a lot more to worry about on the injury front. Marcus Rashford might not return for another two months, and that’s a big loss since he has been Manchester United’s main scoring threat. Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo have both missed more than a month and will miss another couple weeks as they recover, and Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe will miss at least this match. Nemanja Matic is suspended after picking up two yellows against Burnley, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah is questionable.

Matchup to Watch

Without Pogba or Rashford, it’s going to be difficult for Manchester United to break through Wolves back line. Wolves aren’t as strong in the back as they were last year, but the Red Devils have been toothless up front since Rashford suffered a back injury. Anthony Martial will be asked to pick up the slack, and he has scored four goals in the last six matches, but all those goals came against teams in the bottom half of the table.

These teams played to a draw at the Molineux earlier in the season, and that is the likely option once again this weekend.
