EPL Betting Odds – Liverpool at Burnley Match Preview

Through the first three weeks of the new Premier League campaign, Liverpool are top of the table. The defending Champions of Europe are the only team to have won all three of their matches, and they are looking to stay ahead of the pack when they take on Burnley FC this week. The Clarets have looked sharp, appearing much better now that they don’t have to contend with Europa League qualifiers as they did at the start of last season.

Don't miss the English Premier League action from Turf Moor in Burnley, England at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 31, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on NBC.

Odds Analysis

Liverpool have hammered both of the teams they have faced at Anfield. Neither Norwich City nor Arsenal stood much of a chance on the road against Liverpool, as the Reds just kept coming in waves. Mo Salah notched three goals in those two matches, and he continues to set the standard for the club.

In their lone road tilt to this point, Liverpool controlled their match against feeder club Southampton, but the result was relatively close. Sadio Mane scored just before halftime and then Roberto Firmino added another midway through the second half before former Red Danny Ings pulled one back for the Saints. Southampton had some decent chances though, so Liverpool will look to do a better job of putting the clamps on Burnley’s attack.

Burnley are one of the 10 teams stuck at 1-1-1, but the Clarets can be proud of their performance to this point. They opened their season with an easy 3-0 win over Southampton, countering beautifully to give Ashley Barnes a brace in the victory.

The Clarets put forth a valiant effort in a 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates, and they nearly secured a win on the road against Wolverhampton last week. Burnley were ahead 1-0 for almost the entire match thanks to another Barnes goal, but Erik Pieters inadvertently brought down an attacker in the box late in extra time to give Wolves the chance to level at the death on a penalty.

Key Injuries

Naby Keita is unlikely to be back before the international break as he continues to deal with a hip injury that has sidelined him since the opening match. Alisson is unlikely to be back until after the international break as well due to a calf injury, while Liverpool won’t have Nathaniel Clyne until 2020 after a torn ACL over the summer.

Steven Defour and Robbie Brady have both been ruled out for Burnley, and Johann Berg Gudmundson is unlikely to play. Danny Drinkwater is likely to be available for selection though.

Player to Watch

Barnes has had a great start to the season for Burnley. The Clarets’ leading goal scorer last season has been very sharp this year, notching four goals in Burnley’s three matches. If they are going to pull out a result, he is likely going to end up on the scorer’s sheet.

Prop Bet – Will Both Teams Score? Yes -114

Both teams have scored in every game to this point, and Liverpool have allowed a goal in every game. Their defending has not been great and Alisson’s absence in the back has certainly affected the Reds. I love the value on this prop.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Burnley are going to give the league leaders quite the scare. The Clarets have looked really strong, and Turf Moor is not an easy place to play. They are going to cover the Asian Handicap, but picking up a result is too much to ask.

English Premier League Odds: Liverpool 2, Burnley 1
