MLS odds basically set at pick 'em between Sporting Kansas City, Real Salt Lake on FS1 Sunday

RSL-at-SKC.ar

Sporting Kansas City (6-6-2, 24 Points) is actually averaging the second most points per game this season in the MLS.

That said, the team is only just barely a favorite against the ninth place team in the Western Conference, Real Salt Lake (4-6-5, 18 Points).

ODDS ANALYSIS

The fact that this game is virtually a pick 'em is a testament to just how close most of the Western Conference is to one another. SKC is only third best in the West right now by total points, but there are only six points separating these two teams in spite of the fact that there are six places separating them as well.

Sporting is set at +160 on the moneyline, just 20 cents off of the +180 price of RSL.

The total is low at 2.5 (under -145).

KEY INJURIES

Jamison Olave is a question mark for Real Salt Lake on Sunday night thanks to a minor quad injury. It would be a bit of a surprise if he wasn't at least available for selection for this one. Chris Schuler remains out with a torn meniscus.

The injury list for Sporting KC is still rather large. Ike Opara is out for at least a couple more months. Bernard Anor, Paulo Nagamura, Seth Sinovic and Jacob Peterson have all missed games of late, but they have all been back in training and could be back on the pitch soon.

Chance Myers got back on the pitch for SKC from a torn Achilles' tendon he suffered over a year ago, which was a welcome addition for a team which really needed some creativity from the midfield and the back.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"It gets a little thin. We're getting there. We're just keeping the lines of communication open, working the guys back to fitness. They're doing a good job." – Real Salt Lake manager Jeff Cassar on his team's problems at the back with Olave the latest injury concern

RECENT FORM

Real Salt Lake has played three straight matches without a win, though it did stop a two-match losing streak with a scoreless draw against Colorado last week.

Sporting KC has been on fire of late. The team has won consecutive fixtures and has run off seven straight matches with at least a point to its credit. The club also hasn't allowed a goal in three fixtures in a row.

TALKING TOTALS

Three of the last four RSL matches have failed to reach the total. The fact of the matter is that the one over in that bunch, a 2-1 loss to Vancouver, could have easily stayed under the total as well.

SKC has scored four goals in two of its last four games, but the team has only allowed two goals in that stretch. Totals have split at two apiece in the last four for Sporting as well.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The men from Kansas City really look to be the stronger of the two sides right now. Graham Zusi is continuing to play quite well, and Myers, who might get back on the pitch in a reserve role, could really help out.

Real Salt Lake has problems at the back, and when you parlay that with an offense that just isn't all that good and hasn't put much of anything together either, and the makings are there for a team which isn't in good shape.

Getting +160 on Sporting Kansas City is a fantastic price.
