The Madrid Derby always delivers. Although neither Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid are in contention for La Liga this season, both sides will be looking to pick up a big victory over an arch rival on Sunday.

A win for Atletico would pretty much ensure a second-place finish for the less decorated club from Madrid, while a Real win would put them in good position to finish in second. Currently, Atletico sits on 67 points and Real has 63 points with eight games left.

Odds Analysis

Both of these sides have already essentially clinched their places in the Champions League and are still alive in European play this season.

Real is one of the favorites to win the Champions League after hammering Juventus 3-0 on the road in the first leg of their Quarterfinal bout. Los Blancos seem set to make the Champions League semifinals yet again and have a good chance to win their fourth title in five years.

The Champions League was not kind to Atletico, but the club is in good position to win the Europa League. Atletico is close to an odds-on favorite to win the competition at this point and will face Sporting CP in the first leg of their Quarterfinal series on Thursday.

Last Meeting

Back in November, these clubs bet in the Wanda Metropolitano, but neither side was able to break through for a goal in a 0-0 draw.

Real was able to dominate possession and fired away at Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak throughout the match. Oblak saw 14 shots headed his way, and while only three were on goal, he came up big by breaking up other opportunities with little tips and deflections at opportune times.

Meanwhile, Atletico was able to get just a couple good chances. The first came early on with Angel Correa having just the keeper to beat after a bad pass from Real left him open inside the box. However, he couldn’t do anything with it and the opportunity was wasted. Later on, Kevin Gameiro looked like he had beaten Keylor Navas with a deft chip, but Real’s Raphael Varane saved the day by clearing the ball at the goal line.

Atletico is defensively minded and would like to play the same type of game and put their faith in Oblak, while Real wants to open things up more in the Bernabeu.

Player to Watch

Oblak will be the one to keep an eye on here. The Slovenian is considered one of the top goalkeepers in the world, and he has been linked to a number of major clubs this offseason as Atletico look to cut salary.

Few goalkeepers have the quick reflexes that Oblak does, and that has been a large reason why Atletico have given up less goals than any other club in La Liga. Opponents have scored just 14 times on Oblak in league play this season, meaning he is averaging less than 0.5 goals per game.

He will certainly be tested here. Real has one of the most prolific attacks in the world and his normally stout defense is in dire straits. Filipe Luis will miss the match and three other fullbacks are considered questionable to play.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Although Oblak will play great, it won’t be enough as Real Madrid eventually breaks through to get a narrow victory. Real is in great form and will pressure Atletico throughout the game, and it’s hard to imagine the team won’t crack. Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa will create some chances, but it won’t be enough.

Spanish La Liga Odds: Real Madrid 1, Atletico Madrid 0
