Soccer Odds - AS Monaco vs. Borussia Dortmund Match Preview

2017-Soccer-Monaco-vs.-Borussia-Dortmund-(FS1-2)-Betting-Spreads

It's been a long week for Borussia Dortmund. A blast near the team bus postponed what was supposed to be Tuesday afternoon's match at Westfalenstadion. Instead, the fixture was pushed back to Wednesday in the middle of the afternoon, and the team came out incredibly flat. BVB hasn't been put away yet, but AS Monaco has three away goals onboard and home pitch advantage here in the second leg at the Stade Louis II.

At 2:45 p.m. ET, tune into FOX Sports 2 for live television coverage of this Champions League match on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Stade Louis II.

Odds Analysis

Borussia Dortmund obviously has no choice but to go for broke. One goal won't be enough to advance in any respect, as those away goals are probably just as devastating as the loss at home itself.

Because of the nature of this match, the price on BVB has to be relatively low at +145. In fact, it's hard to even fathom how AS Monaco, a team that has won 13 of 15 matches in Ligue 1 this year at the Stade Louis II with 52 goals scored in the efforts, can even be a pup in this match.

But the fact of the matter is that a draw would be far sufficient, as would a one-goal defeat with either one or two goals conceded.

The First Leg

There was always a sort of air in the ground at Westfalenstadion that BVB was going to be in some trouble. The support from the Dortmund fans was there from the get go even though the match had to be moved from Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon, but the team just wasn't feeling the whole affair.

The early chances were all to the visitors for sure. Fabinho muffed a penalty in the early minutes, but when the opportunity was there for the opening goal of the match, it was Kylian Mbappe who was on the end of an awesome cross that resulted in an easy tap in.

Monaco doubled its tally on another cross into the box, this time met by the head of defender Sven Bender who truthfully looked like the striker himself the way he put that past Roman Burki.

BVB pulled one back from Ousmane Dembele before the devastating third was logged by Mbappe, and though Shinji Kagawa pushed the margin to 3-2 with his late effort, there was never a shot to level the proceedings.

Interestingly enough, the stat sheet was tilted in the yellow and black way throughout. BVB had 69 percent of the possession and won the shot battle 4-2 on the day, yet it conceded three goals because of the own goal.

Dortmund is going to find it much more difficult to dominate the possession here in Monaco from when it was on German soil, but we don't think it's an impossible task. The key is going to be figuring out how to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang involved. The big striker was rather silent against Monaco in the first leg, and that flat out cannot be the case again if there is any hope of overturning this result.

There's a real question as to whether Monaco is going to start feeling a bit of pressure as well. PSG is starting to breathe down its neck domestically, and you can bet if the first goal goes to the men in yellow and black, it's going to be game on in every single sense of the term. Don't be stunned if BVB walks out of the Stade Louis II with a shocking spot in the last four.
