Getting to the Champions League Quarterfinals is starting to feel like a birthright for Bayern Munich at this point. The most storied club in German history has now made it to this stage in seven straight campaigns, but now they are hungry for more. Bayern Munich has not won the Champions League since 2013, and they are looking to claim the crown once again after Spanish clubs have dominated it over the past four years.
Bayern will have to get past on one of those Spanish sides when it faces Sevilla in the first leg of their tilt on Tuesday. Sevilla is not like Barcelona, Real, or even Atletico. This is a new experience for the club, as this is only the second time they have ever made it to the Quarterfinals of this tournament, and the first time they have done so in 60 years.

Odds Analysis
Bayern is a worth odds-on favorite despite being on the road for this one. Bayern has won its last three Champions League road games, knocking off Celtic, Anderlecht, and Besiktas in the process. It has hammered its competition since sacking Carlo Ancelotti in favor of Jupp Heynckes after a disappointing loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Group Stage, and Bayern is considered the favorite to win the Champions League for that reason.
As for Sevilla, this is the club’s one shot at redemption this year. Sevilla has not played well in La Liga. The club has no shot at qualifying for the Champions League next year based off of their placing in the domestic league, and they may miss out on the Europa League too. However, Sevilla have performed well in Champions League, and surprised many by knocking off Manchester United on the road in order to get to this stage.
Matchup to Watch
Sevilla is likely to hang back and look to score on the counter against a team with the talent of Bayern Munich, but that hasn’t always worked out well for them this season. Sevilla has gotten hammered by some mid-table teams in La Liga, so manager Vincenzo Montella may think outside the box and employ a different strategy here.
Injuries to Watch
Superstar goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been sidelined for almost the entirety of the year, but Sven Ulreich has stepped up and performed well in his place. Neuer is back in practice and is training with the team, but it’s highly doubtful he plays in a meaningful game the rest of the season with the World Cup looming. In addition to that, Bayern is likely without Kingsley Coman and Felix Gotze for this match too.
Things have looked better for Sevilla along this front. Jesus Navas is expected to play this weekend against Barcelona and against Bayern Munich, and that is big news for the club. Navas has played in these matches before and won’t let the moment overwhelm him.
However, it’s not all good news for Sevilla. Midfielder Ever Banega will be on the sidelines due to yellow card accumulation, while defensemen Daniel Carrico and Sebastian Corchia will not play either.

If you’re going to go against Bayern here, you need a good reason. I can’t come up with one, so I’m going to back them on the road in this one. Bayern has too much talent and it has shown that it won’t take the foot off the pedal in previous matches. Sevilla will keep it relatively close though.
Champions League Odds: Bayern Munich 2, Sevilla 1
