Champions League Betting Odds - Sevilla FC at Bayern Munich Match Preview

Champions-League-Sevilla-at-Bayern-Munich-bm-4-6

European success has largely eluded Bayern Munich this century. For as good as the club has been and as unbeatable as they have been domestically, the club has just one Champions League title in the past 15 years. Bayern was the last non-Spanish team to be named winners of the Champions League back in 2013, and they are in a great position to get to the semifinals of the competition this year. Sevilla is looking to stop them and keep its dream run alive, but the Spanish club will be hard-pressed to do so after losing 2-1 at home in the first leg of their Quarterfinals tie.

Odds Analysis

Bayern is a massive home favorite in this match. The club simply doesn’t lose at home, and it’s reflected in the odds here. However, Sevilla was able to stun Manchester United in Old Trafford to advance to the Quarterfinals, so they know what to do in this situation.

First Leg

The first leg of this tie saw Sevilla in great shape for quite some time. Sevilla had the first real chance of the match just two minutes in, when a brilliant Sergio Escudero cross found its way to Pablo Sarabia. Sarabia was unable to capitalize on the opportunity inside the box, but he made amends a short time later.

Escundero again sent a great ball into the box at the 32-minute mark, and this time Sarabia converted. Sarabia was able to fire it past Sven Ulreich after a slight misplay from Juan Bernat, putting the home side ahead 1-0 and sending the crowd into hysterics.

However, the lead was not meant to be. Shortly after the goal, Bayern Munich was able to level the score off of an unfortunate bounce. A pass into the box took a quick deflection and ended up going off of Jesus Navas before it slipped just past David Soria into the net. The own goal dampened the mood, but Sevilla was still in a decent spot.

Midway through the second half, Thiago Alcantara put Bayern up for good, and put a dagger in Sevilla’s hopes in the process. After a beautiful pass from Franck Ribery gave him the opportunity for a free header close to goal, he finished with textbook efficiency. Sevilla had one good chance after that, but Ulreich was up to the test and gave Bayern the 2-1 win.

Injuries to Watch

The victory came at a cost for Bayern Munich though. Midfielder Arturo Vidal went down late in the first half with a knee injury, and his status for the second leg is in the air. Vidal is one of the keys to Bayern’s defense, as he is an aggressive midfielder that is constantly fighting for, and winning, possession. Not having him would definitely hurt.

Additionally, Bayern may be without Bernat. Bernat succumbed to an ankle injury and he is considered questionable to play in this one. With Kingsley Coman also unavailable, Jupp Heynckes may have to juggle his lineup a bit.

Sevilla will be without Sebastien Corchia for this match. The club has been without him for almost three months at this point, so they are used to playing without him at the back.

This won’t be as easy as a match for Bayern as some are predicting. Sevilla proved they were a worthy foe in the first leg, and now they have their best player back in the lineup. Midfielder Ever Banega was forced to sit out of Tuesday’s match due to yellow card accumulation, and that means he will be rested coming into this leg. Without Vidal to counter him, Banega should be able to make some things happen for Sevilla.

In the end, Sevilla is too overmatched to get the win, but it will be closer than people think. Bayern should not be this large of a favorite, and taking Sevilla on the goal line is a solid bet.
