Horse Racing Odds - Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Race Preview

Turf-Sprint

The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint has a little bit of everything in the field this year. There are three-year old fillies, seven-year old colts and horses who have excelled at racing on both sides of the pond. It's a tough race to handicap, but it certainly appears like there is one in the field who is going to have everyone chasing after her in the second race of the day on Saturday at the Breeders' Cup.

The $2,000,000 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint is the second event on Saturday, November 4 at the Breeders' Cup and shouldn't be missed by bettors. Post-time from Del Mar Racetrack is scheduled for 3:37 p.m. ET, and all of the action can be seen live on NBC Sports Network.

Top Contenders

The youngest thoroughbred in this field also happens to be a filly from the other side of the pond. But don't think that you can just pick on Lady Aurelia because of her age and her gender; she's one bad horse on the track.

As a sprinter, Lady Aurelia has a chance to be one of the very best at her craft, perhaps in the history of the Sport of Kings. She's only a 5 to 2 choice to win this race, a rather short price for a full field of 12 sprinters in a five-furlong race that will go by as quick as a whip.

Lady Aurelia has been beaten twice in her career, and it's going to take everything someone else has to beat her.

Marsha, another horse coming over from Great Britain, is one of the two that has actually beaten the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint favorite. Then again, Marsha is four-years old now and was still a tremendous longshot to a three-year old who was odds-on in the race.

Disco Partner will break from the rail, a good place to be if you've got a lot of speed yet a rather neutral place to start as a deep closer like this colt is. He's the top male racer in this field, and for all he brings to the table, there isn't a lot of substance to justify such a price in relation to Lady Aurelia.

There are a couple interesting names to watch amongst the horses who were originally lined at 10 to 1 or higher on the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint morning lines.

Bucchero is the only horse in this field to turn a 100+ Beyer Speed Rating in his (or her) last race. He did so at the Woodford Handicap at Keeneland Park, beating a field that included two others who are in this field.

Richard's Boy could be live as well in this, his 27th career start. He hasn't won since Preakness Stakes Day at Pimlico, but the fact of the matter is that he's had a great career at Del Mar with two wins, a place and a show in his four starts.

Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Pick

This isn't one of the more overwhelming races to try to figure out in the Breeders' Cup. Lady Aurelia is clearly the best horse in this field, and she's going to be the top sprinter on the turf for the long haul as we see it.

Five furlongs is the perfect distance for Lady Aurelia, and the fact that she's starting in a great post in the No. 3 slot is only going to help her out around the one turn this field will face. Getting beaten at the wire by Marsha at the Nunthorpe Stakes doesn't concern us all that much. We suspect Lady Aurelia will be back with vengeance and make a mockery of the fact that she wasn't odds-on for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
