Horse Racing Odds - Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Race Preview

2017-Horses-Juvenile-Fillies-Turf-preview-Betting-Lines

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf is the first race of the Breeders' Cup in 2017, and it may as well be like a kid being asked to take the final exam on the first day of school. There isn't a ton of data available on most of these fillies, and the field is full with 14 entrants vying to become the first world champion of 2017.

The $1,000,000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf is the first event of the Breeders' Cup and shouldn't be missed by bettors on Friday, November 3, 2017. Post-time from Del Mar Racetrack is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. ET, and all of the action can be seen live on NBC Sports Network.

Top Contenders

Normally we don't direct people to go watch tape any time we're offering handicapping advice, but if you want to see an impressive display, take the two minutes of your life to watch Rushing Fall blow apart the field at the Jessamine Stakes. She was a dozen lengths back around the far turn with at least eight horses to pass while running on the far outside and won by 3 1/4 lengths, a margin that would have been bigger had Javier Castellano stayed on the whip.

That's why Rushing Fall is the favorite to win this race at 7 to 2 in spite of the fact that she's only been raced twice in her career.

Happily, Capla Temptress and September are three of the next choices, and they're all coming from the other side of the pond for the Breeders' Cup.

Happily, a 9 to 2 second choice in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf race, is widely regarded as one of the best horses from Europe coming over to the United States regardless of division. She's beaten September a couple times in her career already, and that's what's separating these two with September coming in at 6 to 1.

Capla Temptress took the rare road of racing once in the United States before running in the Breeders' Cup. She won the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes, beating out a field that included another of the top contenders for this race, Dixie Moon.

The next American racer in line is Significant Form. Technically, Significant Form only has one win in two races, but she was disqualified from the maiden race that she won. She responded by winning the Grade 3 Ms. Grillo Stakes in October.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Pick

We can't quite be as comprehensive in a 14-horse field as we'd like, and we know there are several contenders we've missed here who have a shot of winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Keep a close eye on Ultima D out of the blocks, as she should provide some tremendous early speed.

That said, this isn't a race where speed usually wins. The winning filly is almost always the one that can come from off the pace and do the job.

Logically, that should point to Rushing Fall, but we just can't back her at a price of 7 to 2.

Instead, we're going to go with September, a filly we feel is tremendously undervalued thanks to the fact that she's been beaten by Happily twice. In both cases, September had the shorter price on her head when compared to Happily, and the oddsmakers are generally more right than wrong when it comes to setting the odds for these big races.
