It should be noted that Swiss Skydiver, winner of the Preakness Stakes, could be entered in the Breeders’ Cup Classic or in the Distaff. There are five horses who are listed at single-digit odds to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic. They are Improbable who won the Awesome Again Stakes, Tiz the Law who won the Belmont, Authentic who won the Kentucky Derby, Tom’s d’Etat who won the Stephen Foster and Pacific Classic winner Maximum Security.

The horse with the highest Beyer number in the field is Maximum Security, while Improbable has the best number in his last race.

The Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Rankings have Improbable at the top. Those rankings are determined by a panel of racing media, horseplayers and members of the Breeders’ Cup Racing Directors. Improbable got 317 votes, far outdistancing the second place horse, Tom’s d’Etat. Maximum Security was third in the poll and was followed by Tiz the Law and Authentic.

It is worth noting that Bob Baffert trains Improbable, Authentic and Maximum Security. He said that Authentic is working extremely well in advance of the Classic. “Authentic, he worked awesome,” said Baffert to the media. Authentic worked seven furlongs at Santa Anita in 1:24.40. Improbable worked seven furlongs in 1:25. Maximum Security went five furlongs in :59.80. The workout for Maximum Security was the fastest of 72 horses that worked out at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Baffert said to the media that all three of his horses look great. "I'm not being politically correct, but all three of these horses are at the top of their game right now," Baffert said to the media, "Authentic looks just as good as he did going into the Kentucky Derby. Maximum Security is doing the best he's ever done for me, and Improbable is also doing very well." Luis Saez is set to ride Maximum Security, while Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Improbable and it will be John Velazquez aboard Authentic. "They are a triple threat," Baffert said to the media about his horses. "It may come down to post position or the trip they get."
