NHL Thursday, March 30 Parlay Picks

Connor McDavid continued to make history on Monday night. McDavid became the first NHL player to score over 140 points in a season since the 1995-96 campaign when Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr both reached that point total for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux finished with 161 points and Jagr had 149 points, so while McDavid probably can’t catch Super Mario, he might be able to surpass Jagr. That should lock up McDavid’s third Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP, and only three players have won the Hart Trophy more than three times (Eddie Shore, Gordie Howe, and Wayne Gretzky). McDavid is a lock to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s top scorer for the fifth time, joining Jagr, Lemieux, Gretzky, Howe, and Phil Esposito as the only players to win the award that many times.

As for my picks, I’m certainly not as good as Connor McDavid. I went 1-1 again with my NHL Parlay Picks this past Saturday as the Seattle Kraken hammered the Nashville Predators, but the New York Islanders lost at home to the Buffalo Sabres.

NHL Parlay Picks for Thursday, March 30, 2023

Columbus Blue Jackets at Boston Bruins (-1.5)

Vegas Golden Knights (-1.5) at San Jose Sharks

Let’s not get cute with this week’s picks. The Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks are currently the two worst teams in the NHL. Both Columbus and San Jose are currently sitting on 53 points, and these front offices are hoping that both teams lose out in order to increase their chances of landing Connor Bedard. The 17-year-old Regina Pats phenom is considered by many draftniks to be the most talented player entering the league since Connor McDavid, so it’s clear that every team would love to have him on the roster.

With that in mind, we could see some top players scratched for Columbus when the Blue Jackets take on the Boston Bruins. Columbus already has the worst goaltending situation in the league since trading Joonas Korpisalo to the Los Angeles Kings, and the Blue Jackets have surrendered at least four goals in 11 straight games. Boston is looking to make history as the winningest team the NHL has ever seen, so the Bruins will be motivated to lay it on the Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights are trying to stave off the Los Angeles Kings to win the Pacific Division and claim home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Vegas has won eight of its last ten games, and the Golden Knights are on a four-game winning streak despite a three-game road swing in Canada. The offense is coming alive under Jack Eichel, even though the Golden Knights are simply mediocre on the power play.

San Jose has lost nine straight games as of Tuesday morning. The Sharks are a much different team since trading away top goal scorer Timo Meier to New Jersey, as there are no longer any real scoring threats on the wing. Additionally, the goaltending has been atrocious with four players combining to post a 3.84 GAA and a .886 save percentage.
