NHL Odds - Sharks at Coyotes Game Preview

2016-NHL-Sharks-at-Coyotes-Betting-Odds

The San Jose Sharks will look to stay hot as they visit the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen on NBCSN. The Sharks have won their past three games overall while the Coyotes come in off a loss. Not much has gone right for Arizona as they are 2-6 on the season and in last place in the Pacific Division. They will be at home on Tuesday night but it may not matter as they have lost six of the last ten at home against San Jose.

At 10 p.m. ET, tune into NBCSN for live television coverage of this NHL game on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Gila River Arena.

We'll have NHL odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the NHL Tuesday schedule.

Odds Analysis

Both teams come into this game well rested as the Sharks last played on Saturday at home against Nashville while the Coyotes lost at home on Saturday to Colorado.

This is a quick one-game road trip for the Sharks as they will return home on Thursday to play Calgary while the Coyotes are playing the second game of a three-game homestand.

San Jose should be listed as a slight road favorite in this contest with a total of 5 over or 5.5 under.

Special Teams

The Sharks have a major edge in terms of special teams as they are 9th on the power play and 11th in terms of penalty killing. Those numbers are not great but they are far better than the rotten numbers for the Coyotes who are 28th on the power play and 28th in penalty killing.

The Sharks have killed 19 of 20 penalties in the past six games.

It is very difficult to win in the NHL with poor special teams and the Coyotes have done nothing right on offense or defense this season and it is reflected in their poor record at 2-6. Head coach Dave Tippett has some serious problems as his team is not scoring goals and his penalty killing and goaltending has been poor.

Starting goaltender Mike Smith is out due to injury and oftentimes the best penalty killer for a team is the goaltender. Backup Louis Domingue has not been that good this season and he admitted after the loss to Colorado on Saturday that he has to be better saying, “The way the game is played today in the NHL, you rely on your goalie. I can’t give up three goals a game.”

Key Stat

San Jose comes into this game averaging 2.6 goals per game with much of the success coming on the power play as they are hitting at 24.1%. The Sharks are giving up just 2.3 goals per game and they are first in the NHL in fewest shots allowed per game.

Arizona is scoring 3 goals per game but they are allowing 4.1 goals per contest. The defense has simply been awful as the Coyotes are allowing 34.1 shots per game which is the worst mark in the NHL.

The Sharks have won 7 of the last 10 meetings against Arizona with the last five going under the total. It has not really mattered where the games have been played as the Sharks have taken five of the last seven in Arizona with the last two going under.

Free NHL Picks

There is just not much to like about the way Arizona is playing right now while the Sharks come in having won three straight. Both teams are well rested for this contest so there is no advantage in terms of rest. The Sharks have proven they can win consistently on the road and they have been good recently in Arizona so I will lay the small price and take San Jose in this contest.

NHL Odds: Sharks 4, Coyotes 1
