NHL Odds - Red Wings at Rangers Game Preview

Red-Wings-at-Rangers-tw-bm-hockey

The New York Rangers are favored at home on Wednesday night as they host the Detroit Red Wings on NBCSN. This game is billed as one for “rivalry night” on NBCSN but the Red Wings and Rangers are really not rivals as Detroit plays in the Atlantic Division while New York is in the Metropolitan. The Red Wings come into this game at 1-2 while the Rangers are 2-1. The Rangers will be solid home favorites in this contest with the total at 5 or 5.5.

This war on the ice will go down Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 8 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden. The game will be televised live on NBCSN.

We'll have NHL odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the NHL Wednesday schedule.

Odds Analysis

The Red Wings looked awful in their first two games of the season losing 6-4 and 4-1 but they bounced back to defeat Ottawa 5-1 on Monday night. This will be one of those ridiculous one-game road trips as the Red Wings were home on Saturday vs. the Senators and they come right back to start a three-game road trip on Friday vs. Nashville.

The Rangers are unbeaten at home this season at 2-0 and already it is becoming clear they are going to be a team to bet over the total at home, especially with their current defensive injuries. New York is coming off a 7-4 win against San Jose on Monday.

Injury Report

The Rangers have two key injuries that could affect this contest, especially the total. Defensemen Dan Girardi and Kevin Klein are both listed as questionable for this Wednesday night contest. The Rangers have gone over the total in two of their three games with the other game being a push. New York simply doesn’t have the defensive depth to compensate if Girardi and Klein are out as they have been forced to play a bunch of young players.

The Rangers have said on their official injury report that Girardi has a strained groin while Klein has missed the first three games of the season due to back spasms.

Detroit is also without one of their top defensemen as Nicolas Kronwall will miss this game with a knee injury.

Key Stat

The Red Wings are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in New York. The Red Wings have been awful facing a team scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game going 11-23 in their last 34. Detroit has been road kill of late winning just 5 of their last 23 away from home. They have also played poorly on Wednesday’s going 2-8 in their last 10.

The Rangers have won 5 of their last 6 vs. the Atlantic Division. The concern if you back New York is that they have not handled prosperity that well of late as they are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win.

The Over is 6-2-3 in the Red Wings last 11 road games. The Over is 7-1-3 in the Rangers last 11 vs. the Atlantic. The Over is 15-6-7 in the Rangers last 28 home games. The one problem with betting the Over is that the Under is 8-1-3 in the last 12 meetings.

Free NHL Picks

The Red Wings have simply been awful on the road of late and they have really struggled in New York losing the last six. I will take the Rangers to get the home win.

I also can’t ignore the defensive concerns for both teams as Detroit has gone over the total in two of their three games with one push while the Rangers are scoring a lot of goals and giving up a lot. New York is averaging 4.7 goals per game and allowing 3.3 per contest. I will also take this game over the total.

NHL Odds: Rangers 4, Red Wings 3
