NHL Odds - Red Wings at Flyers Game Preview

Red-Wings-at-Flyers-bm

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday in what is promoted as rivalry matchup on NBCSN. The reality is that these two have never really been rivals and play in different divisions but it still should be a competitive matchup. The Red Wings are 6-4 on the season and in second place in the Atlantic Division with 12 points while the Flyers are 4-5-1 and have 9 points in the Metropolitan Division. It has been nothing but misery for the Red Wings in Philadelphia of late as they have dropped the last 11 meetings having not won in Philadelphia since 1997.

Don't miss the ice action from the Wells Fargo Center at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Catch every moment of the game live on NBCSN.

We'll have NHL odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the NHL Wednesday schedule.

Odds Analysis

The NHL odds on this game should have the Flyers a slight home favorite. Both teams last played on Sunday and had Monday off so there is no advantage in terms of rest. The Red Wings are playing a one-game road trip as they will come back home to take on the Jets on Friday.

The Flyers are playing a one-game homestand as they go on the road for a game on Thursday night at the Islanders. This will be the first half of a back-to-back for Philadelphia.

Special Teams

The Red Wings are scoring 2.7 goals per game but they haven’t been getting much from the power play as Detroit is scoring just 19.5% of the time which is 16th in the league. The Red Wings may continue to struggle on the power play as one of their leading scorers, Thomas Vanek is out. His lower body injury was first “day-to-day” and it is now “week-to-week.” Vanek had four goals and four assists to lead the team.

The Red Wings are allowing just 2.4 goals per game which is 8th best in the league. They have not been that great on their penalty killing as they are 14th in the league at 81.6%.

Philadelphia has been scoring plenty of goals and the power play is a big reason why. The Flyers are 3rd in the league in goals per game at 3.5 and they are 3rd in the league on the power play at 27.5%.

Philadelphia has been awful on defense as they are allowing 3.8 goals per game which is next to last in the league. The penalty killing is a big problem as the Flyers are just 24th on the league at 75.8%.

The Flyers have been so bad they have switched goalies three times in nine games. Philadelphia believes they are better than their 3-5-1 record. “We’ve had some ups-and-downs," Wayne Simmonds said. "We’ve played some great periods, some awful periods and some inbetween periods. We have to get some consistency.”

Key Stat

The Red Wings are 0-11 in the last 11 meetings in Philadelphia. The Red Wings are 8-3 in their last 11 vs. a team with a losing record. The Red Wings are 2-7 in their last 9 road games. The Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record.

The Under is 3-1-1 in the Red Wings last 5 road games. The Over is 4-0-1 in the Flyers last 5 home games. The Over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia.

Free NHL Picks

The Red Wings have simply been awful in Philadelphia losing the last 11 tries but I simply don’t trust the Flyers. I think the better bet in this one is to take the over as both teams have been solid on offense while the Flyers have been awful on defense. I will go over the total in this contest.

NHL Odds: Red Wings 4, Flyers 3
