The Honda Classic Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Champion Course at PGA National used to be the hardest par 70 in a non-major on the PGA Tour but last year it was just the sixth-hardest. Accuracy off the tee is definitely more important than distance, as this is a relatively short par 70 that puts the premium on accuracy, GIR and scrambling.

Brian Harman +120 vs. Alex Noren

I know that Noren has played pretty well in his PGA Tour events this season, but I still have to take Harman as an underdog. He has five top 10 finishes this season and he has the right type of game to work his way around PGA National.

Sergio Garcia -160 vs. Gary Woodland

Sergio has the right type of game to win at PGA National and he loves playing in the wind and it is almost always windy on this course. Woodland is having a good season, but his game is more suited to longer courses. I will lay the price and take Sergio in this matchup.

Daniel Berger -135 vs. Russell Knox

Berger is another player who really likes playing in the wind. He finished second in this tournament in 2015 but missed the cut the last two years. I expect him to bounce back and play really well this week.

Patton Kizzire -115 vs. Thomas Pieters

Kizzire is having an excellent season, as he leads the FedExCup point’s race. He is in the top 15 on the PGA Tour in greens hit, proximity and a number of other categories. I think Pieters will struggle this week, as his game is all about distance and distance just isn’t a big factor at PGA National.

Dylan Frittelli -110 vs. Louis Oosthuizen

Frittelli is doing very well on the European Tour and I like him in this matchup against Oosthuizen. When it comes to Oosthuizen he might be worth considering on a longer course, but he hasn’t done anything of note on tough courses in a long time.
