Jon Rahm is favored to win the CareerBuilder Challenge that gets underway on Thursday in California. Rahm and Brian Harman are the only two players ranked in the Top 20 in the field and they are the top betting choices, as Rahm is listed with odds of +600, while Harman is +1251. We went 2-3 with the matchup picks last week in Hawaii. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s CareerBuilder Challenge.

CareerBuilder Challenge Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This event is played over three courses, the Stadium Course and Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club. The Stadium Course is played twice, as it gets the final round. The field consists of pros and amateurs and the cut is 54 holes.

Brian Harman +120 vs. Jon Rahm

As I said last week, I am going to be going with Harman in a lot of matchups this season. He has four top five’s and an 8th place finish in five starts this season. I know that Rahm is the favorite in this tournament, but I think Harman is the value pick in this matchup, as we get him at +120.

Kevin Kisner -120 vs. Phil Mickelson

I know that Mickelson has played this event well in the past, but right now Kisner is simply the better golfer. Kisner has two top 25 finishes already this season and he has five straight top 25 finishes going back to last season. Until Phil shows me he can contend for the win I am going to look to go against him. I will lay the price and take Kisner in this one.

Chez Reavie -105 vs. Brendan Steele

Reavie is one of my longshots to win this week. He tied for 18th last week and he has played well in this event in the past with a tie for 17th and a tie for 12th. I will lay the small number and take Reavie in this matchup against Steele.

Hudson Swafford -125 vs. Bubba Watson

I did well last season going against Bubba and I will do so again until he proves he has turned his game around. Swafford doesn’t get nearly enough attention, while Bubba gets more than he deserves. I think Swafford is undervalued in this matchup against Watson.

Bud Cauley -135 vs. Peter Uihlein

Cauley has seven top 10 finishes since last year’s CareerBuilder event. He tied for 3rd in this event last year and he tied for 14th the previous year. Uilhein hasn’t been anything special since playing more time on the PGA Tour, so I will lay the small price and take Cauley here.

David Lingmerth -110 vs. Martin Laird

Lingmerth has made the cut in all five previous appearances in this event and he has finished second twice. Laird is another player who hasn’t been that great on the PGA Tour. I think Lingmerth should be a much bigger favorite in this matchup against Laird, so I will take the favorable matchup and price.
