World No. 10 Rickie Fowler is favored to win this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Fowler has not been in action since playing in the Presidents Cup but oddsmakers have him as the top choice at +926. Defending champion Pat Perez is the second choice in the betting at +1601, while Gary Woodland is the third choice at +1978. OHL Classic at Mayakoba Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. El Camaleon is not that long at 6,987 and is a par 71. It plays like a links course and wind can be a factor. Length has not been the key to winning, as the last three winners were Perez, Charley Hoffman and Graeme McDowell. Veteran golfers have done really well in this event, as in the first ten years of the tournament, the winners average age was 34.7. The top five in greens-in-regulation last year in this event all finished in the top 10.

Pat Perez -183 vs. Patrick Reed

Perez is the defending champion and he comes in playing well with a win at the CIMB and a tie for 24th at the WGC-HSBC. He was great on this course a year ago, as he shot 21-under par. He continues to put up great GIR numbers and he should be in contention for the win on Sunday. Reed is simply overrated and even though this price is high, I am taking Perez.

Charley Hoffman -127 vs. Chesson Hadley

It is easy to like Hadley, as he is playing really well right now. He is coming off a great Web.com season and he has opened this year’s PGA season with a tie for 3rd, 2nd and a tie for 4th. Hoffman was one of my key golfers to back last season but he is not in top form yet and right now he is a go-against.

Gary Woodland -128 vs. Charley Hoffman

Woodland nearly won this event last year and he played well last week, tying for 18th in Las Vegas. He led the field last year in GIR in this event. I will lay the small price and take Woodland.

Jason Kokrak -155 vs. Anirban Lahiri

Kokrak has finished in the top 20 in all three of his appearances in this event and he comes in playing well, having finished in the top 20 in all three tournaments this season. Lahiri has blown up over the weekend in recent starts and I see no reason to take him this week. I will lay the price and go with Kokrak.

Ryan Armour -124 vs. Emiliano Grillo

This is a key stat matchup, as Armour ranked 5th in greens-in-regulation last seasons, while Grillo was just 54th. I will lay the small price and take Armour in this matchup.
