The European Tour gets back into action this week with the BMW SA Open in South Africa where Branden Grace is listed as the favorite. Grace and Charl Schwartzel are the top betting choices, as Grace is +625, while Schwartzel is +750. No other golfer is listed with odds of less than +1700. We are coming off a successful 2017 with the matchup picks and we’ll look to continue the success in 2018. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s BMW SA Open.

BMW SA Open Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Glendower Golf Club is a long par 72 that measures 7,564 yards. It is tree-lined, so distance and accuracy are the big keys this week. Scrambling could also be important, as there are 64 bunkers on the course and water is in play on 11 holes.

Dean Burmester -124 vs. George Coetzee

Burmester finished last year strong with a tie for fourth in the DP World Tour Championship and he had solid play at Mauritius and Joburg. He finished fourth in this event a year ago. Coetzee always seems to struggle at Glendower with three missed cuts. I will lay the small price and take Burmester in this matchup.

James Morrison -119 vs. Erik Van Rooyen

Morrison has played well in South Africa in the past, with three top six finishes and he has solid form at Glendower including a tie for 13th last year. He ranks 12th in the Race to Dubai for this season with two top ten finishes in three starts. Van Rooyen finished second at the Joburg Open but I am still not sure he is ready to handle the big boys on the European Tour yet, as most of his play has come on the Challenge Tour. I will take Morrison at the small price in this matchup.

Brandon Stone -150 vs. Jamie Donaldson

Stone won this event in 2016 but there is no question he was out of form late last season. Stone said he has addressed some swing issues in the past month or so and that his problems are in the past. If that is the case he is a solid play this week. Donaldson is on the downside of his career and he missed the cut in this event a year ago. I will lay the price and take Stone in this matchup.

Graeme Storm +105 vs. Darren Fichardt

I am very surprised Storm is an underdog in this matchup, as he is the defending champion of his event. He comes in playing well, as he had a couple of top four finishes late last season and the last time in South Africa he finished in the Top 10 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. I will take Storm at plus money.
