New York Jets Season Win Total

It’s now 10 years and counting for the New York Jets since they last punched a ticket to the playoffs. While that streak will more than likely remain intact come the conclusion of the 2021-22 NFL betting season, the franchise as a whole looks to be in a position to end it sooner than later after blowing the internal framework up this past offseason. Jets fans can rejoice now that the Adam Gase regime is no longer calling the shots. The cherry on top is Robert Saleh and a brand new coaching staff that should have the “J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!” playing a much more competitive brand of football right from the opening kick of Week 1. With a schedule strength ranked amongst the middle of the pack and a fresh new outlook, New York is a team I plan to back on the pointspread in a number of games. I remain bullish on the team as a whole as well as the head coach regardless of the fact that online sportsbooks opened their season win total up at just 6 wins. Don’t be surprised if this team makes a push for a wide card slot at the tail end of the season!

New York Jets Season Win Total: 6 Over -110

The Jets failed to surpass their season win total odds for the third straight season in 2020-21. It grossly failed to do so last season after churning out the second worst record in the league (2-14) that afforded them the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft. Last year’s win total clocked in at 7. Due to grossly underachieving in the eyes of linemakers, the number to beat entering this year currently checks in at 6 with standard juice attached to the over. It marks the ninth straight season that the Jets are expected to produce a .500 record or worse. But don’t worry Jets fans, you got a good one in Saleh and he will turn the fortunes of this fledgling franchise around in short order.

New York Jets Season Win Total Analysis

The Jets were forced to deal with one of the toughest schedules in the league a season ago. With that, it hardly came as a surprise to see the team go winless up until Week 15 after pulling the shocking 23-20 outright win over the Rams in Los Angeles. Why it went out and beat the Cleveland Browns the following week to muck up their draft order is a discussion to be had another time. I blame it on the oblivious coaching staff. Heck, the team didn’t accrue a pointspread cover until Week 7 when it stuck within the near 10-point spread in an 18-10 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. I’m willing to go out on a limb and predict that NY already has one if not two wins in the bag by the time their Week 6 bye comes around. That season opener against the now Sam Darnold led Carolina Panthers will be one to watch! Belichick will likely hand the Jets another home loss like he has nine of the last 10 times the following week, but that game in Denver Week 3 is a winnable game. So too is the Week 4 home clash against Tennessee. The London game against the Atlanta Falcons could go either way. Bottom line, New York is going to surprise many an NFL bettor this season. Unfortunately, the tail end of the schedule is the toughest, and it will ultimately prevent the Jets from qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

Say what you will about Zach Wilson, the kids got the legs and arm to make a difference at the NFL level. He already had one of the best tackles in the league protecting his blindside in Mekhi Becton, but the addition of Alijah Vera-Tucker now has the foundation in place for the Jets to boast one of the best young up and coming offensive lines in the league. Upper management also bolstered its offensive weaponry in the draft as well as free agency by adding Elijah Moore, Michael Carter, Corey Davis and Keelan Cole to the roster. This offense could surprise right out of the chute! If the defense can remain healthy – I’m looking at you CJ Mosley – New York will be competitive with regularity and have an excellent shot of surpassing its bearish win total. If nothing else, they’ll put the Bills and Dolphins on notice that the NFC East won’t be a two-horse race for much longer.
