QUICKFIRE CHALLENGE –For this challenge, they would be creating a "visually stunning" dish, which Padma referred to as "Food Porn," a tirelessly trending hashtag on social media. The catch? Use nothing but junk food. The Instagram public was to judge, with the chef with the most likes on their photo crowned the king or queen. They each had 30 minutes to create their dish.

RESULTS –The chefs showed off their dishes and the judges were in agreement that they all did a good job of plating. How it tasted - it would seem - would not be important this day; it was all about how it looked. The photos were uploaded and the public had a day to vote. After the voting was done, the winner was Karen.

Karen has proven to be a force to be reckoned with thus far, gobbling up less screen time in favor of a slow and steady momentum.

ELIMINATION CHALLENGE –In comes guest judge Neal Fraser, who Phillip used to work for. For this challenge, they would be working in teams of three and cater the Beefsteak event. They each had to create a seafood dish, a meat dish and two sides. However, the three rules of Beefsteak: no utensils, no plates and no napkins. (That's right, no "Don't talk about Beefsteak" a la "Fight Club.")

The teams were:

  • Green Team– Phillip, Amar and Jeremy
  • Blue Team– Isaac, Marjorie and Chad
  • Red Team– Karen, Kwame and Carl

The teams discussed their dishes. When the day of the Beefsteak on Top Chef California 2016 arrived, the judges and 200 guests arrived!

TASTING –

  • Green Team –Tom said everything was seasoned nicely and cooked nicely. Hugh said it tasted good, but it was dainty and not for this event.
  • Blue Team –They loved that a big sausage came out. But, they said it didn't have enough fat or seasoning.
  • Red Team –The only team that actually made a beef dish and used fish. The shrimp was bitter and over-salted. They loved the asparagus. The beef was cooked perfectly and the sauce was great. The shrimp was overdone.

JUDGES’ TABLE –The winning team was Amar, Jeremy and Phillip. The judges discussed all of the dishes and it was Chad eliminated and hading to Last Chance Kitchen to take on Jason, who beat Angelina last week.
