They faced a Mystery Box challenge. The reaction of our "chefs-in-training," all ranging in age from 8-12, was priceless. Afterwards, they got their first chance to serve VIPs in the “MasterChef” Restaurant. Two contestants exited the competition at the end of the episode, leaving the Top 10.

Judges Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi and exiting judge Graham Elliot told the contestants to lift the Mystery Boxes on their stations, where they all found blindfolds. This is when they learned they needed to taste a special dish created by Ramsay. Then they would need todo their best to recreate said dish without seeing it. Interesting challenge really.

Gordon’s special creation was a pan-seared chicken breast, with accompanying vegetables. Right awaysome contestants found themselves in trouble. Several contestants thought it pork instead of chicken. I mean, this isn't Coke versus Pepsi, folks. Come on.

Zac, Amaya, JJ and Sam went for the pork and were immediately unable to compete for the win. JJ and Sam are already fledgling at +1000 on BookMaker. Kya, at a modest +700, nearly set the kitchen on fire.

However, Gordon helped her save the dish and she manages to serve up a fantasticchicken breast. She swapped out some veggies, but Gordon thinks that the other elements in her dish are just as tasty as the one that he created. Teacher's pet anyone?

Kya won the challenge, and Kaitlyn camein second.

Elimination Challenge

Kya and Kaitlyn were then appointed team captains for the elimination challenge. For the record, Kaitlyn shares Kya's +700 odds.

They share these odds with Addison, Avery, Kamilly, Zac and Tae-Ho.

The contestants were divided into two teams of six. Kya chose between two boxes of ingredients with contents coming from New England or New Mexico. For her Red Team, she selected the New England box. Kaitlyn and her Blue Team were then left with ingredients from New Mexico.

Red Team: Kya (captain), Avery, Sam, Corey, Jesse, Ian.

Blue Team: Kaitlyn (captain), Addison, Zac, Kamilly, JJ, Amaya

For the restaurant service, the teams were told that they needed to prepare 31 servings for a group of very special guests. The “MasterChef” Restaurant was filled with women who have been cooking all their lives. The evening’s service was for specially-invited grandmothers.

The contestants (i.e. kiddies) were thrilled to be serving grandmas. Kya’s Red Team decided to serve up a New England clam and mussel bake with cod fish cakes and celery salad. The Blue Team went with spiced pork loin with black bean cakes, chorizo succotash and avocado mousse.

Service went fairly smoothly, considering that the kitchen was being run by kids! The Blue Team faced a small issue with the amount of pork that they prepared, so they needed to adjust their portion size. At the Red Team, Ian didn’t prepare the celery properly for the salad, but Gordon pointed that out and they managed to recover quickly. Ramsay biting his tongue here is always a delight.

In the end, the Blue team edged ahead. The Red Team faced the chopping block and the judges immediately saved Sam and Avery, both evenly matched at +1000 odds.

In the end, Ian and Jesse were sent home.
