Wow. Jessica Cabral got booted for a lack of “connection.” Didn't see that one coming. Guess "Idol" is trying to keep viewers on their toes, what with this being its much-ballyhooed final season and all. She had been a standout thus far.

The good news: There are at least 8-12 vocalists in the mix with the potential to inherit Nick Fradiani’s crown, plus send "Idol" off in style. They were buried in a heap of 51 hopefuls, now narrowed down to 24.

Highlights:

Dalton Rapatton continued his streak of turning show tunes into rock songs. A song from "Phantom of the Opera" got him to Hollywood, and a song from "Grease" got him to the Top 24. If I had to pick a winner today, it'd probably be this guy.

Resident weird girl Jenn Blosil, this year's Joey Cook, chose “The Hanging Tree” for her final performance. Lopez loves her. She made it to the top 24.

Shelbie Z., still high off her performance of “Alone", chose another Heart tune - “Barracuda." She made it to the top 24.

Colette Lush, who we haven’t seen pretty muchall of Hollywood Week, went the risky route, and it cost her. Even after that incredible first-round audition.

MacKenzie Bourg killed with“Can’t Help Falling in Love.” He's a longshot but there is an appeal there, albeit quirky.

Trent Harmon completely dominated the final round of Hollywood Week with a killer performance of “Tiny Dancer.”

Tristan McIntosh almost seems like she’s been bred to win "Idol." Picking Faith Hill’s “Stronger,” she gave another powerful performance. The judges played around with heras if there’s any kind of chance that she won’t be chosen. She was.

In the end there were four: Jordan Sasser, La’Porsha Renae, Kacye Haynes, and Lindita. First off, we see the guys: For his final performance, Jordan did “Love Runs Out.” Unfortunately for Kacye, the spot was not for him. Jordan took it.

La’Porsha and Lindita were next. La’Porsha is that powerhouse who crushed “Creep” during her audition. Lindita did a really fun take on “BangBang.” And then La’Porsha belted out “House of the Rising Sun." Lindita went homewhile La’Porsha moved forward.

So here’s your top 24: La’Porsha Renae, Jordan Sasser, Tristan McIntosh, Jenn Blosil, Gianna Isabella, Emily Brooke, Olivia Rox, Sonika Vaid, Thomas Stringfellow, Manny Torres, Dalton Rapattoni, Avalon Young, Lee Jean, Amelia Eisenhauer, CJJohnson, Jeneve Rose Mitchell, Jenna Renae, James VIII, Kory Wheeler, Adam Lasher, Trent Harmon, MacKenzie Bourg, Shelbie Z., and of course Stephany Negrete.
