Stevenson is a 45-to-1 Favorite Over Karpency for September 11 Bout on Spike TV

Adonis-Stevenson-vs.-Tommy-Karpency.ac

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson – 26-1, 21 KOs – isn’t doing himself very many favors with boxing fans. Ignoring the mounting criticism that he was taking easy matchups, the Canadian champion has elected to face a clearly outclassed Tommy Karpency – 25-4-1, 14 KOs. Stevenson is going to be a really, really ridiculously pricey bet.

CURRENT ODDS

Our online boxing odds currently have Stevenson as a colossal favorite, with a -4500 money line. Yes, you’ll have to bet $4500 just to make a measly hundred bucks. I’d expect the total rounds for this 12-round bout to be set around 8.5 rounds. Prop bets, like what round the fight will end, are typically released on fight night, so remember to check back in for the latest updates.

TAKING IT TOO EASY

Stevenson recently defeated Sakio Bika and Dimitry Sukhotsky, and neither is regarded as world-class contenders. Karpency is actually a clear step down from those fighters, which tells you exactly how ludicrous this match is.

“I’m excited to announce my next fight on September 11 in Toronto against Tommy Karpency,” said Stevenson. “I’m ready to put the hurt on. I work hard and stay focused.

I’m glad that somebody’s excited for this fight, because not many people are. At 37, Stevenson needs to fight a better class of competition as long as he can still fight at a high level. In the past year alone, he’s turned down unification fights against Sergey Kovalev and Bernard Hopkins, as well as former champion Jean Pascal. Now, he’s fighting some guy you’ve probably never heard of.

Karpency’s most notable victory came over Chad Dawson, which is impressive until you consider the fact that Dawson injured his hand early on and basically had to fight one-handed. Still, it was a close fight, and Dawson is nowhere near his prime.

“I beat the same guy Stevenson beat to become the world champion. I beat him just over a year after Stevenson beat him,” Karpency boasted. “After tha win, I said the sky was the limit and that I wanted the best in the world. The win proved that I belong amongst the lite at light heavyweight.”

Obviously, Karpency is not an elite fighter. Stevenson probably can be considered one, but the guy seriously needs to start proving it sooner than later.

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

There’s no need to go into too much detail here. Stevenson is far more powerful and better in every area. If you’re looking to score any sort of payout, your best bet is to parlay the champ to win with the under. Keep an eye out for prop bets as well, particularly Stevenson to win by knockout. That’s the most likely outcome for the fight, and it’ll net you far better earnings than betting on him to win outright.
