Heavyweights Amir Mansour and Gerald Washington collide on FOX Sports 1 in October

Gerald Washington - 16-0, 11 KOs - was nearly 30 when he made his pro boxing debut. And that’s something that has many doubting whether the former USC football player is the real deal, even with an undefeated record.

The American can prove a lot of the naysayers wrong when he meets the well-respected Amir Mansour - 22-1, 16 KOs - in Washington on October 13.

CURRENT ODDS

Check our online boxing odds for the latest money lines on each fighter. I’d expect Mansour to be the favorite, because not much is known about Washington at this point. In this 10-round bout, the total on rounds is likely to be set around 8.5 rounds. Prop bets, such as what round the fight will end or how it’s finished are usually released shortly before fight night. Because BookMaker updates their odds daily, expect the lines to shift as action starts coming in.

THE REAL DEAL WASHINGTON?

There’s no denying that Washington has been vaulting through the heavyweight ranks with impressive performances. Most recently, he cruised to a unanimous decision over journeyman Jason Gavern in March, marking his biggest win to date. But now, he’ll face a big man who has just as much momentum.

“I’m looking forward to stepping into the ring with Amir Mansour,” Washington said in a release. “This is my time to make a statement. I will make an example of him to let the heavyweight division to know that there’s a new sheriff in town. No more Mr. Nice Guy - it’s time for me to bring the pain!”

Since losing to Steve Cunningham by decision last April, Mansour has won two straight. And when you compare his resume with Washington’s, Mansour has unquestionably faced better competition overall. They share a common opponent in Jason Gavern, although Mansour knocked him out in the first round.

Gerald Washington has not even come close to fighting someone of my caliber,” said Mansour. “He has zero advantage except for height and I’m experienced enough to take that away. The match against me is going to introduce Washington to an entirely new world of fighting and I’m sure he isn’t prepared for this type of fight.”

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Like I said earlier, I really don’t know what to make of Washington yet. He’s looked every bit the natural in his early career, but that’s been against low level guys. At 33 years old, he is 10 years the junior of Mansour, but it’s not like Amir is completely over the hill.

I’d probably stick with Mansour here, just because I’m not completely convinced that Washington has accumulated the skill to compete at a world class level in just three years. Of course, if he’s the phenom that some people are saying he is, that should be enough to beat guy like Mansour.
