LET’S TUNE UP

It’ll be interesting to see how Stiverne responds to his beating at the hands of Wilder, which was only his second career loss. Prior to that fight, Stiverne was on a 13-fight unbeaten streak, including two wins over Chris Arreola. While credit is due to Stiverne for facing Wilder, the result showed us that the 36-year old isn’t quite on the level as the best in the world.

Perhaps that’s why he elected to face Derric Rossy, a journeyman who offers nothing but “W” for Stiverne. Rossy is an uninspiring 2-4 in his past six fights, with losses to prospects and fellow journeymen alike. At no point in his career was he considered a legitimate heavyweight contender.

However, Rossy has shown a willingness to fight and shouldn’t be considered a pushover. What he lacks in speed and power he makes up for in grit. It would be a mistake for Stiverne to overlook him completely, and he’s kind of painted himself into a corner here. Anything less than a KO would be considered a disappointment for somebody who was a former WBC champion.

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Don’t be surprised if Rossy banks a few rounds before Stiverne wakes up. While Rossy is nothing more than a gatekeeper at this point of his career, there’s a reason he’s lasted so long in the sport. Still, his lack of skill and serious questions about his chin make it nearly impossible for him to realistically pull off an upset.

Because Stiverne is so expensive, you might want to explore alternative bets here. The under is a good start, although you’ll still have to bet a lot to make anything. If anything you might just want to parlay Stiverne to win with another bet on this card - like Russell to win against Escandon in the headlining bout of the night.
