Champion Cornelius Bundrage is a Huge Underdog Against Jermall Charlo Sept 12

Cornelius-K9-Bundrage-vs.-Jermall-Charlo-Sept8

While it’s not totally uncommon for a champion to be the underdog, Cornelius Bundrage – 34-5, 19 KOs – is one of the biggest in recent memory. The IBF super welterweight titlist will face undefeated Jermall Charlo – 21-0, 16 KOs – and oddsmakers are fully expecting a new champion to emerge.

CURRENT ODDS

Our online boxing odds currently list Charlo as a 16-to-1 favorite, with a -1600 money line. Bundrage is a huge underdog at +900. The total in this 12-round bout will likely be set at 10.5 rounds, with the over being the slightly more expensive bet. GO TIME FOR CHARLO

Jermall Charlo, the twin brother of fellow contender Jermell Charlo, has been seeking a title shot for a long time. The 25-year old Houston native was scheduled to fight Carlos Molina for the belt in March 2014, but Molina was arrested a few days before the fight. Since then, Charlo has won four in a row and is getting antsy to get his hands on a belt.

"This is my time," Charlo said. "I've never been more ready for a fight. I've dreamed about a fight like this for a long time, and it's here in front of me. I will be spectacular, and I will finish Cornelius Bundrage."

The 42-year old Bundrage will be making the first defense of his second title reign at 154 pounds. He regained his belt in October with a unanimous decision against Carlos Molina in Mexico. Although Bundrage is aware that he’s a big underdog, he’s not lacking for confidence and refusing to give the challenger any special treatment.

"He's just another fighter that I will be defending my title against," Bundrage said. "I've been down this road before. It's nothing new to me. I'm hungry to keep what's mine. I know what it takes to be successful at this level. Sept. 12 will be another victory. I know people don't think I'm going to win this fight, but the odds don't mean a thing to me. I know what I am capable of."

FIGHT PREDICTION AND ANALYSIS

Though Charlo hasn’t faced an elite caliber opponent yet, he’s certainly beaten guys that are better than Bundrage. The current champion is one of those guys who has a belt because of timing more than skill. Bundrage is 17 years old than Charlo, and it’s doubtful that he’s got enough left to stop this ferocious young lion.

The obvious pick here is Charlo to win, but you might want to consider making a parlay with the under as well. While Charlo is not an exceptionally powerful fighter, I could see him overwhelming Bundrage to the point the champion goes down or retires on his stool before the 10th round.
