ODDS ANALYSIS

Klitschko opened with an average money line of -455, with Fury at +333. The fact that the odds have shifted nearly 50 points in Klitschko’s favor indicates heavy action coming in on the champ. Expect Klitschko to move even more into chalk territory on fight night, as interest in the heavyweight title fight grows.

FEATS OF FURY

Leading up to the biggest fight of his career, 26-year old Tyson Fury keeps making headlines for all the wrong reasons. A few months ago, he arrived at a press conference as Batman, both amusing and bewildering everyone in attendance. Earlier this month, he gave a strange interview with the UK’s Daily Mail, calling Klitschko a “devil worshipper,” proclaiming the end of the world was near, ranting about homesxuality and abortion, and calling this Saturday’s bout a David vs. Goliath matchup.

The even-keeled Klitschko dismissed Fury as “bi-polar,” stating that he has ceased being surprised by the challenger. The Ukrainian might have a point. There is a line between being a showman and just being weird. Fury has crossed it and hasn’t looked back. You have to wonder where the Brit’s head is at right now, and if he’s in the right mindset to fight the best heavyweight of the generation.

But let’s put all that aside and take a look at the fight itself. From a physical perspective, Fury has some real advantages. He’s 13 years younger than the 39-year old Klitschko. What’s more, he carries a 3-inch height advantage, which is a big deal considering the 6’6” champion has built his career on fighting tall and long. For all of Klitschko’s accolades, he will be fighting a younger, bigger opponent.

But in terms of skill, Klitschko outclasses Fury in almost every aspect. The Ukrainian is a well-oiled machine with a perfect jab. That jab sets up his devastating straight right and dangerous hooks. His mechanics are perfect, allowing him to expend little energy while dealing out maximum damage.

Fury is a solid boxer, but not elite when it comes to pugilistic skill. His jab pales in comparison to Klitschko, and he’s mainly gotten by because he has such a big size advantage over opponents. But even though Fury is the bigger man, he doesn’t have the technique to outbox Klitschko.

In every other facet of the game, Klitschko is better. Defense, power, footwork, ring generalship - all go towards Klitschko. He has a surer path to victory, and the champion has perfected his game plan over the years. There’s a reason that Klitschko has been a champion for over decade, and Fury isn’t the guy that will change this fact.

PREDICTION: Klitschko TKO 8 Fury
