Boxing betting online: Undefeated Columbian Eleider Alvarez – 17-0, 10 KOs – will put his unblemished record on the line against hard-hitting Paraguayan Ranoni Prieto – 24-0-3, 20 KOs – on August 15 in Montreal.

The fighters will square off on the undercard of an event headlined by former super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and Italian Andrea Di Luisa. Both Bute and Alvarez currently train out of Montreal, setting up a hometown match for both.

Much like the main event between Bute and Di Luisa, this is a showcase fight for Alvarez, and oddsmakers will reflect that. The over/under on this 12-rounder will likely be set at 11.5 rounds, with the over coming in as the favored bet.

HOW GOOD IS ALVAREZ?

It’s hard to tell what Alvarez’ ceiling is, but his floor is already impressive. After representing Columbia in the 2008 Olympics, Alvarez has yet to lose in 17 professional fights. He owns notable victories over Edison Miranda, Alexander Johnson and Ryno Liebenber, and is only a few victories away from a WBC title shot – the organization currently has him ranked No. 3 in the world.

Prieto is also undefeated, despite three draws on 27 fights. This fight marks the North American debut for the 29-year old, who will be fighting outside of South America for the first time in his career. He comes into the fight on the strength of three straight knockouts over Mauricio Barragan, Jackson Junior and Edson Roberto Dos Santos Borges.

Despite a resume devoid of any signature victories, the WBC has Prieto ranked No. 14, while the WBO has him at No. 6 overall. Neither the WBA or IBF have either man in their top-15. Do either of these guys have what it takes the likes of Adonis Stevenson or Sergey Kovalev? Probably not, but don’t be surprised if Alvarez gets a shot at Stevenson at some point.

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The tale of the tape shows shows nearly identical physical characteristics between Alvarez and Prieto. Alvarez is four years the junior, while Prieto is a half an inch taller. Both men fight out of the orthodox stance. But that’s where the similarities end. Prieto is a power puncher, and he forgoes defense in order to land big shots. Alvarez is a technician without much zip on his punches, instead relying on points.

When it comes to Alvarez’ skill vs. Prieto’s power, the scales tip in Alvarez’ favor. While it’s doubtful that he knocks out his opponent, Prieto’s lack of defense will be his Achilles heel. Alvarez should easily score enough points to come away with a unanimous decision.
