2016-Boxing-Dennis-Douglin-vs.-David-Benavidez-Betting-Odds

Undefeated rising contender David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez (15-0, 14 KOs) will fight in a 10-rounder for the first time, although his crazy power likely means he won’t need all of them. Benavidez will meet Denis Douglin (20-4, 13 KOs) in the feature bout of this Friday’s PBC card on ESPN.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Douglin is little more than a stepping stone for Benavidez, who is quickly becoming one of the brightest prospects in the sport. That sentiment is reflected in the money lines, where Benavidez is a massive favorite.

THE LEAD-IN

Benavidez is just 19 years old, but he’s already blessed with ridiculous power. He’s coming off a thrilling seventh-round knockout of Francy Ntetu this past June. There were plenty of eyes on the bout, as it took place on the undercard of the Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter title fight. El Bandera didn’t waste any time celebrating.

“We never stopped training after my last fight,” said Benavidez. “We went right back into camp and I’m already in fighting shape. Douglin is a tough southpaw. We’ll start looking at the tape and see what kind of holes he has. I’ll start with the jab and break him down. We’re working hard towards bigger and bigger fights. This is going to be a great night of action.

New Jersey native Denis Douglin, 28, comes into the matchup on a three-fight win streak, albeit against low-level opposition. The only notable fighter he’s faced is British contender George Groves, who knocked him out in November 2014.

“I plan on applying pressure and making Benavidez adjust to my style,” Douglin said. “He’s a tall, strong fighter, but he doesn’t use his height. He’s one dimensional, but he’s very good at what he does. He doesn’t have the experience to deal with my style. I am stepping in with an undefeated fighter but he will leave the ring with a loss.”

CO-FEATURE

Alejandro Luna vs. Stephen Ormond

In the scheduled 10-round co-feature, lightweight prospect Alejandro Luna (20-0, 15 KOs), just 24 years old, will meet Ireland’s Stephen Ormond (21-2, 11 KOs). Ormond has won four straight fights since a February 2015 DQ against Terry Flanagan -- who went on to win a world title. In a losing effort, Ormond refused to stop headbutting Flanagan.

THE PICKS

In both the feature and co-feature, the picks are ridiculously obvious. Take Benavidez to win, as well as Ormond. Given how expensive they are, try and parlay them if you can. Check BookMaker’s prop bets to see what the odds are for Benavidez to score a knockout. The kid can already punch like a truck, and the payout you’ll get for him to win by KO/TKO will be far better than Benavidez to win straight up.
